2 Ceres Fife Ceres is one of the most historic and picturesque villages in Scotland. Located in a small glen approximately three miles from Cupar and approx seven miles from St Andrews, making the village an ideal location for the commuter with nearby train station at Cupar, (three miles) which is on the main Aberdeen to London line and provides a fast link to Dundee and Edinburgh. Edinburgh Airport, is only 40 miles away and Dundee Airport is 15. Many local residents now commute to work in nearby towns and cities such as Perth, Cupar, Dundee, St Andrews, Dunfermline and Glenrothes. With a strong sense of identity, Ceres remains one of the few Scottish villages to have a village green, known as the Bow Butts since its use as an archery practice ground in medieval times. The Fife Folk Museum occupies several wellpreserved buildings that date back to as early as the 17th century and commemorates rural life of a bygone era. A pottery in the village has revived the manufacture of traditional Fife Wemyss Ware, sold world-wide placing the village firmly on the international market. All the lovely East Neuk fishing villages, Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans etc. are close to hand where a classical music festival is held in late June/early July, and Pittenweem holds an Arts Festival in the summer. Nearby Tentsmuir forest and beach, where seals can be found around May, is wonderful for walking and cycling. Combine all of these attractions with many National Trust properties and Michelin star restaurants to visit in the area and this picturesque and ancient village offers so much for the modern family with an excellent range of schools available including the highly-regarded primary school.
