However, should a more ambitious shopping trip be envisaged, it is a simple matter to travel over to Cameron Toll Shopping Centre, via Cluny Gardens, and Blackford Avenue, or take a short trip into the City Centre itself. Using one of the many and frequent bus services that pass through the district, the city centre is generally no more than fifteen minutes away. By car, the West End can often be reached in less than half this time. The West End, Lothian Road and Tollcross is where Edinburgh s formal entertainment facilities tend to be highly concentrated. Here there are theatres and cinemas, all manner of bars and restaurants, indoor sport facilities and health clubs. Clearly, this area is within very easy reach. The return taxi ride is both quick an inexpensive. For those who prefer open air recreational facilities, there are a number of nearby golf courses, several of which are on the Braid Hills which, themselves, offer pleasant country like walks. Similarly, Blackford Hill is nearby. Between these two is Hermitage of Braid. Only a short drive away lies the eastern extremity of the Pentland Hills, at Hillend, where there is Edinburgh s dry ski slope.
