Post Office not issuing ATM cards Sir, I opened a savings bank account in K.K. Nagar Post Office. But even after 3 months, I have still not received my ATM card. According to a staff member, the branch has not received ATM cards from the Head Office for the past 6 months as the Postal Department is in the process of introducing online transactions. I wonder how that will replace ATM card for cash withdrawal. I have also written about this to The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices (Chennai City South Division, Chennai 17), but have not received any reply. Flyover can ease congestion in 1st Avenue, Ashok Nagar Sir, There is heavy traffic congestion in 1st Avenue, Ashok Nagar throughout the day. Motorists and pedestrians coming on 8th, 9th and 10th Avenue find it tough to cross the road to reach Metro station or ESIC Hospital. Even the traffic policemen stationed during peak hours at these junctions struggle to regulate the traffic. The congestion is only going to get worse with TNHB announcing the construction of the 22-storey building to replace the old shopping complex on 1st Avenue. In this regard, I appeal to Chennai Corporation to construct a flyover across 1st Avenue to ease the traffic congestion at the road junctions. Dr. K.R. The street has not been receiving piped water supply for more than 8 months. My grievance was published in Mambalam Times in September, but till date no action has been taken by Metrowater officials to restore piped water supply. The residents are forced to spend exorbitant amounts to buy water through tankers in spite of paying Metrowater taxes regularly. Off-late, the Metrowater officials are using the excuse of water shortage for non supply when we pursue the complain, but the reality is that we have not been receiving for over 8 months. Recently when there was a similar problem in Postal Colony, Metrowater replaced the 70-year-old pipeline to solve the problem. I once again appeal to the officials concerned to inspect the long standing problem and resume piped water supply in Muthalamman Koil Street. N. Vijayaraghavan, West Mambalam. Quick action by Metrowater official Sir, I thank and appreciate the services rendered by Nellaiappan (Asst. Engineer, Metrowater, Zone 10) in taking quick action to restore piped water supply in Rangan Street, T. Nagar. Soon after receiving complaint from a resident, he personally visited our street at 5 a.m on Jan. 31 to check the supply and effect corrective measures. Similarly, when the residents of Gandhi Street, T. Nagar held a meet to discuss civic issues on a govt. holiday during Pongal, Nellaiappan presented himself when he was told of the same just a day before the meet. While one may discount my claim on the plea that it is the duty of any government official to attend to any complaint, as a complainant it is also my duty to appreciate the efforts by the officials concerned. It has higher number of 9000-liter tankers, even though the demand is more for 6000-liter tankers. It is leading to heavy demand and delay in supply. The sump capacity in our 30-year-old apartment in Motilal Street, T. Nagar is only 6000 liters and we are sometimes forced to buy 9000 liters, which leads to wastage and loss of money. Nagar & Mambalam Vol. 24, No. 37 Motorists appeal for 2-way traffic on roads connecting to Anna Salai It is more than eight months since the AG-DMS, Teynampet and Nandanam metro rail stations were opened, but motorists are still forced to take diversions between Nandanam and Gemini flyover along Anna Salai. South Boag Road, North Boag Road, Narasimhan Road and a portion of G.N. Chetty Road, Venkatanarayana Road and Vijayaraghava Road have been one-way since 2012 when construction for the tunnels and the three underground stations on Anna Salai began. According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL), they have already given the go-ahead to traffic police in December to restore 2-way traffic on these roads. A. Arun (Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic) told Mambalam Times that they have sought some clarifications from CMRL, and the 2-way traffic will be restored on these roads shortly. 1326th Issue: Metro Rail launches feeder service to IT hubs Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has tied up with Ford s Corporate Shuttle Feeder Services to launch Office Ride - last mile connectivity to passengers, particularly in the IT sector. The service was launched in Alandur Metro Station on Jan. 30. According to a CMRL official, the service is similar to share taxis or vans and link metro stations with major IT hubs at affordable rates. A total of five wi-fi enabled vehicles each with seating capacity of about 12 was launched. As of now, nine trips each from 8am to 12pm and from 5pm to 9pm have been planned. Presently, there is feeder service from Alandur metro station to Elcot and Sipcot. Later, it will be extended to other stations such as Anna Nagar East, Anna Nagar Tower, Koyambedu, Ashok Nagar and AG-DMS. Office Ride also has a mobile app which works like those operated by other cab aggregators. Commuters will have to enter their pickup and drop location upon downloading the app. The service functions on crowd-sourced route suggestions to improve commutes. Tree blocking apartment axed, complaint filed Chennai Corporation has filed a complaint in K.K. Nagar police station after an avenue tree was axed without permission on R.K. Shanmugham Salai, K.K. Nagar, falling under ward 131 of the Kodambakkam zone. The complaint was first filed by a local civil activist with Chennai Corporation through the Namma Chennai app. According to a Corporation official, when they made enquiries, they found out that the tree was chopped by a builder at the behest of the residents of a new apartment on the road, as the tree was blocking the view. The complaint was forwarded from the parks department to the zonal assistant engineer, who after consultation with the park overseer, filed a complaint with the KK Nagar police. In his complaint, he has stated that unknown persons had chopped the branches of the tree without permission. Youth arrested for snatching phone from woman 22-year-old Arokia Raj (a resident of Pillayar Koil Street, West Mambalam) was arrested by Pondy Bazaar police on Jan. 27 for snatching an expensive mobile phone from C. Jayalakshmi (a resident of Choolaimedu) in Kodambakkam High Road a day earlier. The police got the registration number of the motorcycle from the footage of a CCTV camera installed outside a shop near the scene of the crime. According to the police, during a vehicle check near Periyar Salai, police identified the bike and tried to stop the rider. But the man dodged the officers and fled. Sub-inspector Sathish Kumar and head constable Rajendran nabbed the man after a chase. He has been remanded in judicial custody. FREE The T.
