See you in April! Woman with autism solves complicated jigsaw puzzles 32-year-old Aishwarya Sriram (resident of 10/2, Lakshmi Colony, North Crescent Road, T. Nagar) was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Her parents Girija and Sriram admitted her in a special school to hone her skills. Aishy (as she is fondly called) has problems of communication and other skills like any autistic child, said their parents. However she picked up a passion for solving jigsaw puzzles. Her skill was noticed by her teacher when she was ten years old. A box of puzzle which accidentally tumbled out of a cupboard caught her attention and she assembled it without any help. According to her parents, over the years they kept increasing the difficulty level and she has graduated from assembling 20 pieces puzzle to 1500 pieces. She spends about two hours every day on puzzles and can complete a new piece puzzle in just five days, they said. Girja said that Aishy has solved more than 150 jigsaw puzzles and several of them have been showcased and sold in exhibitions. Nagar, passed away on March 25. He was 76 and had been a long time resident of T. Nagar. He belonged to the 1962 batch of the Indian Police Service. Sripal served as Chennai City Police Commissioner from and became DGP (Tamilnadu) in 1991 and held the post till his retirement in The infamous Auto Sankar serial murder case was solved during his period as DGP. Sripal was a prominent member of the Jain community in the State and was instrumental in creating a fullfledged Department of Jainology in Madras University. He became the Chairman of the Research Foundation for Jainology. He served in the State Planning Commission and was also a visiting professor at Madras University. Sir, At a time when the residents are eagerly awaiting to receive the Aadhaar cards after their unforgettable experience of standing in queue for hours to register their bio-metric data, the recent report that many of the issued Aadhaar cards remain undelivered at post offices for want of correct addresses only exposes the insensitivity of the Census Department. How can anybody count upon an identity card without proper address? Even though the department has outsourced the work, the responsibility of the final product still rests with the department. How could the department approve such shabby work done by the outsourced agencies before issuing the final card? Recently, I went to link my Aadhaar card issued by the UIDAI with NPR based one. The assistant at the camp left out my initials while feeding my name. When I questioned him, he told me that he has been following this method only. My pleadings were of no avail as he went about his job. The huge publicity that Aadhaar will be the one pass comprehensive card has proved to be wrong. It has just become another identity card like the voter id and ration cards with errors and omissions. Recently laid concrete roads pedestrian unfriendly Sir, The recent report in Mambalam Times on the poorly engineered concrete topping on Arulambal Steet (T. Nagar) holds good for roads in Nandanam Extension and other areas in the city as well. The road design is pedestrian unfriendly. The 2-3 foot pathways that have been left without topping at the sides are uneven and risky to walk on. Pedestrians are forced to walk on the road, thereby risking their lives.
