5 Location Parsons Mead sits on the bank of the Beaulieu River with access to some of the finest sailing on the south coast. The Beaulieu River is one of the world s few privately owned rivers and plays host to an exceptional range of flora and fauna. The river rights were granted to the monks of Beaulieu Abbey by King John in 1204 before later passing to the Montagu family. Custodianship of the river by one family, over four centuries has resulted in it being largely unspoilt in terms of landscape. The village of Beaulieu has a range of shops with a garden centre, Michelin-starred restaurant and the renowned Beaulieu River Sailing Club. It sits with The New Forest National Park and is approximately 7 miles east of the Georgian market town of Lymington which offers a comprehensive range of shops, restaurants and local businesses, along with its marinas and popular yacht club. Airports and train stations are within easy reach and the M27 for access to the M3 for London is 10 miles away. 13 Gardens and Grounds There are immaculate lawned gardens leading down to the river, as well as mature planting and established trees. Parsons Mead has a pontoon as well as a slipway, where boats can be moored and launched at high tide. There is also a side gate through which one can make the short walk along the river into the pretty village of Beaulieu without having to cross Palace Lane. Adjoining the gardens is a field used by Beaulieu River Sailing Club, so the view is filled with sails during the summer months.
