4 History Minsterley Hall is a fine Grade II* Listed, timber framed house with a well documented history from when it was built circa 1581 for a gentleman by the name of Robert Clough. The house was sold to the Marquis of Bath in 1634 soon after the destruction of Caus Castle. It is thought that some of the materials and fittings came from the castle when the house was substantially enlarged in The house remained in the ownership of the Thynne family for over two Centuries and since that time has only changed hands a few times. Description While being an historic gem, Minsterley Hall is a wonderful family house standing in beautiful mature gardens and grounds. The house is laid out in such a way it lends itself to formal entertaining, yet compact enough for comfortable everyday living. The accommodation is surprisingly light with the large windows offering views over the gardens and beyond. Minsterley Hall was built with a prodigious use of oak and is full of idiosyncratic alterations with many distinguishing features including polished oak floors, panelled rooms, beautiful fireplaces, exposed studwork and oak mullioned windows. The two main reception rooms have panelled walls and the drawing room has a 15th Century screen thought to originate from Caus Castle. A small hallway with a cloakroom gives access to the garden and a pergola provides a sheltered outdoor eating area.

7 There are two oak staircases to the first floor. The front stairs lead to the former billiard room, a beautiful room with oak floors and fireplace. The master bedroom suite has a stunning intricately carved Italian marble fireplace commissioned by the Marquis in 1869 and large en suite bathroom and dressing room. The other bedrooms and bathrooms can also be accessed from the back staircase which then continues up to the second floor where the servants would have slept in times gone by. This area has now been restored and presently serves as storage space and gym, but lends itself to further bedrooms and has been plumbed for a bathroom if required. At one end are display panels preserving inscriptions from the halls past inhabitants reflecting some of the history of the house.

8 Outside To the front of the house is a paddock, once a vast lawn, with a line of lime trees planted along the driveway. A second driveway enters from beside the church and swings up between wonderful mature tress including a wellingtonia. From here the house can be glimpsed from behind its walled gardens. To the East of the house are the formal walled gardens which have been restored along with the house and include a charming summer house and gardeners house. A lawn with gravel paths to either side sweeps down to a large feature pool. The gardens and grounds provide a wonderful backdrop for this magnificent house.
