5 GENERAL Enterkine House is a most attractive country house hotel within its own wooded estate overlooking the valley of the River Ayr about 6 miles from the centre of Ayr, a 10 minute drive. The established market town of Ayr has a wide range of excellent services including a cinema and shops, 3 large supermarkets, together with a wide range of restaurants and bars and sports facilities. Wellington is the highly regarded private co-educational school in Ayr and there are several good state schools. Ayr has a mainline railway station with a regular service to Glasgow and beyond. Prestwick airport is within 8 miles. Glasgow itself is easily accessible by rail and road via the M77 in a journey time of about 45 minutes. Ayrshire is renowned for its many golf courses including the world famous facilities at Turnberry, The Royal Troon and Prestwick, former Open Championship venues. The popular racecourse in Ayr holds the Scottish Grand National and regular race meetings throughout the year. There are yacht marinas at Troon, Ardrossan and Largs. Alloway, south of Ayr, is famous as the birth place of Robert Burns with the excellent Burns Centre and Museum. HISTORICAL NOTE Enterkine Estate was owned by the Cunningham family from the mid seventeenth century and was the location of The Fete Champetre referred to by Robert Burns in a song of the same name. The current house was built in 1939 replacing a late Georgian house on the same site, itself a replacement for an even earlier house. DESCRIPTION Originally one of the finest rural estates in Ayrshire, Enterkine offers a superb country house presently a luxury 4 star hotel within beautiful surroundings comprising acres of land and mature deciduous woodland. Enterkine House, woodland and grounds with marquee From the public road, the entrance is through grand gates along a sweeping driveway which later forks to either lead to an additional parking area, the farmhouse and steading or to the main house. The Hotel offers high quality accommodation and superb views and is well known for its fine dining and two AA Rosette Award winning food created by Head Chef, Paul Moffat. Weddings are also extremely important at Enterkine House. Exclusive use of the house can include the use of the permanent marquee making Enterkine a wonderful wedding venue. Lot 2 Grounds The historic setting of Enterkine House and its mature secluded grounds are one of the property s defining aspects. The house is surrounded by gardens, gravelled parking area and 18 acres of deciduous and pine woodland. There is a dutch barn (44.6ft x 30ft & 29.8ft x 29.6ft) and workshop.
