6 The Property A magnificent former farm house and is Listed Grade II. The layout of the ground floor of Brook Farm House is typical of a late 17th Century farm house with some architectural features consistent with this period, with later additions in the 18th and 19th Century. The oldest part of the house, the central bay with cross passage hints at a hall house with timber and herringbone brick infills, indicating origins from the 16th Century. The true extent of the house is not apparent from the outside. Brook Farm House is an imposing house with mellow colour washed rendered elevations under a hipped clay tile roof with a prominent cruciform chimney, and an attractive wing at the rear with mullion windows. There are two principal entrances, one at the front with a hall leading to the family/dining room and drawing room with inglenook fireplaces, views over the garden on two sides and there is a further sitting room with an inglenook featuring the oak frame with herringbone brick panels to create an attractive and intimate entertaining room. This room in turn links through to the music room with a door to the garden and a further playroom/study which is vaulted with a door to the courtyard garden. The layout of these rooms provides attractive entertaining areas for an extended family creating an intimate yet impressive setting.
