6 The Property 5 St James Villas is a particularly fine Grade II listed Regency style villa, built circa 1830 and the attractive street scene is made up of a series of pairs of semi-detached villas. They are two storey, No. 5 having a converted lower ground floor. The house is stuccoed and colour washed white with inset sash and casement windows under a slate roof. The two extensions have flat mineral felted roofs and one has solar panels providing power back into the grid. The front door has a fanlight over and opens into the entrance hall which has the staircase rising to the first floor and down to the lower ground floor. There is a cloakroom, charming drawing room with a fully functional Victorian fireplace, and on either side there are shelved display alcoves. The kitchen/breakfast room is L-shaped and has a wide archway into the dining room; the kitchen has a wood laminate floor, range of units and some integrated appliances. The dining room has French doors leading out into the walled courtyard garden. At the end of the kitchen there is a rear lobby, stable door to the garden and a study which potentially could be extended to make a ground floor en suite bedroom if required. On the lower ground floor there is a bedroom and bathroom, both have panelled ceilings, and there is a useful understairs storage cupboard in the vestibule. The first floor is approached by a turned staircase. Bedroom one has a wall length range of fitted cupboards and a dressing table recess. Bedroom two has a fireplace with a Victorian grate and wash basin, plus a wardrobe cupboard, and there is a door through into an occasional bedroom which could be converted into an adjoining bathroom. It is currently used as a study. There is also a family bathroom. Outside The driveway off St James Villas provides parking for two cars. Additional permits are available from the Council. The front garden is partly enclosed by black painted railings. There is a terrace, lavender hedging and a wonderful old wisteria, roses and a flowering cherry tree. Behind the house is a very pretty walled courtyard garden, paved with some brick edging and raised beds. Within the garden is a mature apple tree and climbers including clematis and roses. There is a small lean-to garden implement store and a gate which leads out onto a path which provides a separate access into the garden. J197
