3 FFRITH HALL Ffrith Hall is considered to be a fine example of a late Georgian villa, which was commissioned in 1790 by the steel magnate John Wilkinson of Wilkinson Steel fame. The house was built for their estate manager, who ran the former Brymbo Hall Estate incorporating Wilkinson s own private residence set in over 500 acres of land and the renowned Brymbo Steel Works which closed in Ffrith Hall is deserving of its Grade II Listing, being an imposing three storey house with an attractive stucco facade, decorative pillars and symmetrical sash windows under a slate roof. It occupies a slightly elevated position with a pleasing rural aspect to the front over the gardens, also of note as they are traversed by Offa s Dyke, which is evident by the camber at the front of the house, and pleasing views beyond over open farmland. To one side is a modern purposebuilt two storey garage block, which benefits from planning consent for conversion to provide ancillary accommodation to the main house, but has scope for a variety of uses to include a home office. Internally, the accommodation is typical of a Georgian house of this era with large central hall and landings, with well proportioned accommodation arranged around.
