Historical Note Thornvale House was acquired by Captain George Garvey in the early 1800 s following retirement from the Royal Navy. Garvey made further alterations to the house to present it as found today. He was a member of the King s County Boards, Poor Law, Town Commissioners and Lunatic Asylum. He was also involved in the Diocesan and General Synods of his church and served on the North Tipperary and Kings County Grand Juries, later becoming High Sheriff of King s County. Walks can be enjoyed on the property, the Lough Derg Way and a number of other trails, including the Devil s Bit and Silvermines Mountains. Wild fowler s can escape to Ashton s Callows, one of the best known bird watching areas in Europe, or Carney Fen clay pigeon shooting is available nearby.
