Historical Note Thornvale House was acquired by Captain George Garvey in the early 1800 s following retirement from the Royal Navy. The Captain and his wife, whose father Major Pepper resided in nearby Loughton, substantially remodelled and extended the house. Subsequently, his son Tolar R. Garvey made further alterations to the house to present it as found today. He was a member of the King s County Boards, Poor Law, Town Commissioners and Lunatic Asylum. He was also involved in the Diocesan and General Synods of his church and served on the North Tipperary and Kings County Grand Juries, later becoming High Sheriff of King s County.
