History Dating from 1724, Croghan House once was the residence of the Governor of Lifford Gaol. It is rumoured that there was once a tunnel leading from the house straight to the Courthouse/Gaol. Lifford Courthouse or Lifford Jail, as it is sometimes referred to by locals, is a historic courthouse situated in the centre of Lifford. The building was designed by local architect Michael Priestley and built in 1746 in order to enable a circuit assizes judge to visit the county.
