3 HISTORY OF THE ESTATE The Farnley Tyas Estate has a rich and long history. Farnley or Ferelei as described in Saxon times, means meadow of the ferns ; Tyas indicates how the Manor of Farnley came into the ownership of Baldwin Teutonicus during the 1230s ( Le Tees being French for someone of German descent). John Kaye acquired the Manor of Farnley Tyas in 1379, following the death of Sir William Finchenden. The Estate can trace its ancient woodlands back to the reign of Henry VIII when the Kaye family substantially re-built Woodsome Hall as we know it today. In 1726, Sir Arthur Kaye died leaving no male heir. The Estate passed to Viscount Lewisham, eldest son of the Earl of Dartmouth, who married the daughter and ownership of the Estate transferred into their family. In 1968, the current owners family acquired the Farnley Tyas Estate. SPORTING AND RECREATION Keen golfers will note that the Estate adjoins Woodsome Hall Golf Club on the eastern boundary; those preferring to watch team sports, are able to enjoy Super League rugby at Huddersfield Giants and Premiership football with newly promoted Huddersfield at the John Smith s stadium. Test match cricket venues are in Manchester and Leeds, approximately 40 miles and 25 miles away respectively. Country sports enthusiast will enjoy a choice of pursuits nearby and those who enjoy walking and cycling will benefit from many well-known routes, specifically being able to follow the routes of the second stage of the Tour de France when it visited the county in 2014, and most recently the Tour de Yorkshire passed directly through the village. Racing can be found at Doncaster, York and Wetherby. Huddersfield and Leeds both offer a wide range of amenities and services. SCHOOLING There is a wide range of choice for schooling in the area. 5 GENERAL Method of sale: The Farnley Tyas Estate is offered for sale as a whole, by Private Treaty, subject to all leases, licences, Ground Rents and development agreements, whether described in these particulars of sale or not, and as set out in the online data suite. Further details are available from the vendor s agent. The Estate is part held by a UK resident limited company and in a partnership involving two shareholders of the limited company. Wayleaves, easements and rights of way: The property is being sold subject to, and with the benefit of, all rights including; rights of way, whether public or private, light, support, drainage, water and electricity supplies and other rights and obligations, easements and quasi-easements and restrictive covenants and all existing and proposed wayleaves for masts, pylons, stays, cables, drains, water and gas and other pipes whether referred to in these particulars or not. Basic Payment Entitlements: The majority of the Estate is registered under the Basic Payment Scheme.
