4 GENERAL The harbour town of Kirkudbright, also known as Sotland s Artists Town, is very popular with tourists, partiularly in the summer months with a variety of musi, art and historial festivities and events available. The nearby market town of Castle Douglas also has a good seletion of shops, and other servies, and is designated Sotland s Food Town. The regional apital of Dumfries, about 35 minutes drive has a broader range of shops, retail outlets and servies inluding: the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, inema, and the Crihton Campus providing further eduation and degree ourses. Regular flights to parts of the UK and Ireland as well as ontinental Europe depart from Prestwik Airport, whih is 60 miles to the north. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow with their international airports are 100 miles distant. Regular ferry rossings from Cairnryan (about 55 miles distant) to both Belfast (Stenna Line) and Larne (P & O).
