The name of the property refers to the cloth industry that was based here but more prominent in the property s history is that Alexander Angus settled here in 1584 and the house was used as a non-conformist chapel for the first Baptist sect established in Northumberland and Durham. In York there is a record dated 1749 of a dwelling called Juniper Dye House being used as a place of worship for Anabaptists.
