6 OUT AND ABOUT The Avenue is a select development of 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes situated within Amersham, Buckinghamshire. This charming market town is located in the Gateway to the Chilterns and split between Amersham Old Town, the newer Amersham-on-the-Hill and Little Chalfont. Each area of the town is unique and provides character through history and architecture while collectively providing both a pleasing contrast in atmosphere and environment. Pre-dating Anglo-Saxon times, and originally referred to as Elmodesham in the Doomsday Book, Amersham became the active town it is today through several charters which allowed for markets to be held from 12 th Century onwards. This, coupled with the arrival of the Metropolitan Railway in the 19 th Century, sparked the gradual growth of the town. Situated in an area known as the Gateway to the Chilterns, Amersham is just miles from a living, working area of countryside with a long-standing heritage. The Chilterns is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and covers 324 square miles of countryside, stretching from the River Thames in southern Oxfordshire up through Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire to Hitchin in Hertfordshire. It is one of 38 areas within England and Wales, which belong to the same family as National Parks. The Chiltern Hills contain some of the finest landscapes in the country which are worthy of protection at the highest level. There are several walks, cycle routes and bridle paths within the Chilterns including The Chiltern Heritage Trail. This trail circles around Chesham, Amersham, Chorleywood, Gerrards Cross and Seer Green giving the opportunity to experience the great wealth of fascinating buildings and breathtaking landscapes on offer. 6

8 Within its rural borders, this picturesque town boasts fine examples of some of England s most appealing architecture dating back to the 15 th Century. Boasting an astonishing variety of styles, Amersham s High Street is both charming and steeped in history, with many of the buildings still retaining their half timbered frontages and the Baptist Chapel of 1783 in beautiful restored condition. The Avenue is pleasantly situated on the edge of the town with links to the A404 and A413. It is under 15 minutes by car from the M40 (Jct 2) and under 30 minutes journey to reach the bustling towns of High Wycombe and Uxbridge. There are frequent bus services to local villages and further afield with bus stops just minutes from our location. As a Grade II listed building, Amersham s Market Hall is still in use with various stalls often open daily, while the rooms above are available for public and social gatherings. The town has an array of independent boutiques, well-known high street names, welcoming traditional pubs and a vast selection of culinary experiences at many restaurants available, including the award winning Seasons Cafe Deli in Market Square. Residents are spoilt for choice with Amersham Rail Station within a 5 minutes journey away and Chalfont & Latimer Station within 10 minutes by car. Amersham Station provides routes to London Marylebone in under 40 minutes, amongst many other locations locally, with links to Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted and London City. This thriving community offers schools for primary, secondary and further education, a local museum, St. Mary s Church Tower, a health and well-being centre in addition to several leisure centres locally. Tesco, Waitrose and Co-Operative Food supermarkets are under 5 minutes away by car, with further brands only a short distance away by car or bus.
