There is a library and a leisure centre, with a swimming pool, and a new cinema, hotel and retail and leisure area will be completed by 2016 as part of the Thetford Riverside Development. Thetford is also famous for having the largest lowland pine forest in the country, with its opportunities for walking, cycling, horse-riding and adventure activities.
