2 ABOUT ROWDEN MILL STATION A charming Great Western Railway country station converted to provide a two bedroom house with additional studio and garage/workshop/restroom. Planning permission has been granted to extend considerably (see page 6) A residence of unique character, it also has great potential for holiday accommodation or business use, having good sized grounds extending to approximately 2.76 acres including 600 yards of railway track. From the platform there are superb panoramic views of Wall Hills. A range of rolling stock including a rare Wickham pump trolley may be available to a purchaser by separate negotiation. SITUATION Rowden Mill Station is situated in a peaceful and secluded rural location in the beautiful county of Herefordshire, renowned for its fantastic countryside and towns which blend history and culture. The market town of Bromyard is 2.5 miles away and has a good range of local amenities, shops, Post Office, pubs, builders merchant, sports centre, library, theatre and doctor s surgery. Buses to Worcester, Hereford and Ledbury leave Bromyard several times a day with rail links at Leominster and Worcester. There is a range of schools nearby, including St Richard s, a well-regarded private school a mile away in Bredenbury. The station was designed by William Clarke for the Great Western Railway and opened on 15th September It was the first station on the line from Bromyard to Leominster. Closure was on 15th September 1952 and the line was dismantled in The station lay derelict until it was purchased in 1984 by the current owners and the restoration of the site won The British Rail Premier award in The main station building has a kitchen diner, lounge, double bedroom, single bedroom and bathroom. In addition to the station dwelling, the original parcel building has been converted to a studio with wood burning stove, cloakroom and a full height glass sliding door affording stunning views over the open countryside. It has four Velux roof lights and would make a wonderfully light office, artist studio or room in which to write. It is currently used as another lounge and cinema. In 2010 a new building was built on the south side of the station. There is a restroom with en-suite shower and through the lobby is a large open space used as a garage workshop, utility area, shower room and toilet. There are five electrically operated Velux roof lights with remote blinds. This building could be ideal for use as guest accommodation, holiday lets or business use STPP. Behind this building is a raised vegetable garden and large garden shed. Furthermore, the weighbridge house is built in the same style as the station and has an operational (uncertified) Pooley 20 ton weighbridge dated The interior size is 14ft 2ins x 9ft 1ins. Subject to planning permission there is potential to extend the building. The car parking area between the buildings will allow parking for up to six cars.

5 OUTSIDE The platform features a station garden along the paling fence, outdoor illumination is provided by original GWR cast lamp posts with Sugg Victorian lamps fitted to the posts and to the corners of the station building. On the roadside the station buildings are bounded by traditional GWR spearhead railings and gates. Access to the station yard is via the gated goods yard entrance. Poster boards have reproduction 1950s posters. A rare Edward VII post box is fitted in the station side wall and is used for incoming mail. Railway track is laid along the full length of the site. There is one crossover operated by levers in the ground frame box with a second crossover manually operated. Two large railway single track trolley sheds are rail connected utilising a turntable. The cattle dock siding has rare original cattle pens with operating gates to the GWR design. The railway embankment opposite the station has a lower rural path to the edge of the neighbouring field.
