15 history Ury Estate is a 15 th Century Scottish estate rich in history. It can claim to be the ancestral home of the Barclay banking family, the founder of modern farming techniques, as well as some of the more colourful characters throughout the ages in Scottish history. The present Ury House was built on the original site of a castle, an ideal location due to its commanding position over Stonehaven and beyond, at the confluence of Burn of Monboys and the Cowie Water. Ury House is a three and four storey listed building of Tudor/Jacobean style which will be fully restored to its former glory to, once again, form the centrepiece of Ury Estate.
