2 What is The Havelock? The Havelock is a courtyard space which is accessed between two typical West End tenement blocks. Hidden behind these tenement blocks lies a private south-facing courtyard development which is distinctive and unlike anything else in the West End. Designed by the Award Winning NORD Architects, this unique development consists of ten 3 bedroom houses offering accommodation on 3 levels with shared and private outdoor spaces. 3 The development will be strikingly modern in construction and in the choice of materials and detailing, but fragments of the traditional boundary walls will be retained in the common courtyard spaces. This balance of old and new will create a rich colour palette which complements the surrounding red sandstone tenements. The new walls of the courtyard will be planted and offer common seating areas for residents. NORD were selected due to their commitment to creating a successful relationship between the surrounding architecture, the strikingly modern materials and their design vision for The Havelock. They have a proven record of creating something beautiful and yet retaining a balance between old and new. NORD s approach to new buildings is to create a sense of permanence and of familiarity. They strive towards the intangible sense of something that already exists; something undeniably new that carries something already known within it. NORD saw the opportunity within The Havelock space to create a place for living, gathering and relaxing in a central setting. 5 Specification of Bespoke Architectural Finishes The test of true quality is in the detail. Each element of these homes has been meticulously considered and built to the highest specification. The palette has been chosen to strike a balance between natural materials and contemporary finishes. From concept to completion the project has been architecturally led.
