12 ALDERLEY EDGE Alderley Edge takes its name from the railway and the sandstone escarpment known as 'The Edge'. The expansion of railway network in the area was used to attract wealthy business people from Manchester, then in the early 1800's local landowner Sir Humphrey De Trafford of Chorley Hall laid out an extensive new estate of roads and houses, by 1910 most of the area was developed and now boasts several grade II listed buildings, including Chorley Hall. Alderley Edge is notable for its grand Victorian villas set in spacious gardens situated along wooded streets, and falls inside the affluent Golden Triangle of Cheshire villages. The main high street is thriving with stylish restaurants, designer boutiques, speciality food shops and coffee shops. Education is well served with an excellent choice of Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools, including Alderley Edge School for Girls and The Ryleys School.
