6 The development From past to present Hampstead Reach is a new development for North London, consisting of 39 apartments and six houses. The apartments are set over three to four storeys and will consist of two to three bedrooms. They are beautifully positioned, overlooking the spacious gardens. An awareness of the Arts and Crafts Style was a prerequisite when designing adjacent to the development boundary, to ensure a development faithful to the principle characteristics. The placement of the buildings in a random, unordered fashion references the organic growth and development of villages and market towns. Peacefully located at the end of a tree-lined cul-de-sac, Hampstead Reach is accessed from Wellgarth Road. As the design of Hampstead Reach strongly references the Arts and Crafts style of Hampstead Garden Suburb, the new development sits comfortably within the area. The design is sympathetic to the 19th-century movement based on simple forms, true to materials and nature as the source of pattern.
