Gregg Lbisser gave a brief update n the prject status. a. Referendum did nt pass b. Prject scpe f wrk with the Architects is cntracted thrugh Schematic Design, which is scheduled t be cmpleted in April. c. Anther referendum will need t be held, either next fall r spring. d. Once passed, the prject needs funding frm the State Legislature (meets in January 2013) then needs authrizatin t spend the funds (June 2013). 2. Design team t cmplete schematic design, get apprval f Campus Planning Cmmittee, and prepare a schematic level cst estimate t cnfirm that the prject is n budget. 3. The Design team will pause their wrk until the State Legislature apprves additinal design funds fr the prject. Gregg indicated that the U f O will be pursuing G-Bnds, which were nt previusly available t assist in additinal funding. 03 PROGRAM UPDATE 1. Bb Murrin presented a summary f the current prgram was shared with the grup as illustrated in the pie chart belw: Prgram versin 9.1: 2. The current EMU prgram ttals 250,888 grss square feet. 3 4. A reduced Bike prgram is nw included in the prgram t be c-lcated with the recreatin suite: Adjacent the Outdr Prgram, and Club Sprts. 5. Tammy Jw presented blck and stacks plans fr each level, illustrating rugh lcatins fr the different prgram elements. The nrth bar is the fcus f student grups and rganizatins. Nte that these blcks are still subject t develpment and input. Please reference attached slides frm SAC 4 meeting. 6. The Mills Center, ISA stay untuched, with n r minimal alteratins. 7. The term Hearth refers t the main cre includes the atrium. Prgram was develped arund prmting activity t the Hearth, such a fd service and lunge/gathering spaces. 9. The path thrugh the atrium is at the same level as the amphitheater, encuraging the same circulatin as exists tday, expect thugh an enclsed atrium. The Basement desn t have t exist! All ne level with daylighting and a cmmn level f rientatin. 10. Crss sectins thrugh the atrium were shwn t illustrate the dynamic nature f the atrium space. 11. 4 Feedback: Parking was asked abut. There will be apprximately 250 parking spaces arund perimeter f EMU. Adaptatin f what we currently have, n undergrund parking is cnsidering at this time. Parking will be designated and reserved during Cncert Hall / Cnference Center events. Hw was it determined what prgram wuld be by lading dck? Sme prgrams have affinities t servicing needs, but Tammy explains that layuts are still in prcess. An uninterrupted view f Straub Green culd be had by prgram functins at the first flr suth area. Ben, ASUO president, expressed cncerned abut space allcatin based upn the diagram/pie chart. It appeared t him that student services and unins have less square ftage than cnference and cncert hall. It was explained that cnference rms are shared with student functins, and elements f the pie, such as lunge/ atrium, fd service are als student centric spaces, and shuld be viewed as such. Ben was als expressed a cncern that revenue generating services wuld take ver the student riented use f the building. Gregg Lbisser respnded... that revenue generated by retail, fd service and cnference fees are crucial fr the financial success f all unins, but in n way will these functin vershadw the verall missin f student riented services f the EMU. It was requested that the Design Team create a chart cmparing existing space t new allcatin t give a true picture f existing versus prpsed. Legal Services and Student Advcacy suggested that their lcatin near the fd service was nt ideal, since they need privacy and prbably shuldn t be adjacent visible areas nr near student activities. Prgrams in yellw abve, Survival Center, LGBTQA and Wmen s Center prefer t be lcated clser t Student Unins in the new nrth bar. Legal services, hwever, needs privacy and be lcated t a mre remte area with less visibility, preferably in their current lcatin. The Craft Center s new lcatin in the existing basement will give them utdr access alng University Ave. and be lading dck adjacent. They expressed cncern f sund affecting the Call Center and leaks/smells frm kitchen that might damage Craft Center equipment. Diane wrried abut visibility f the crafts center frm University ave. Walker Templetn discussed the exterir burm ging away, and creating vistas int the Craft Yard. KWVA wuld like t be n grund level, with visibility, and that Charltte thinks the third flr culd be a better meeting rm lcatin, and hat the third flr fr KWVA area is t islated fr a full time grup plus security issues with DJs and need fr after hurs access. 5 Greg mentins the value f preserving the current third flr histrical bardrm. Christine Thedrpuls encuraged a primary link between the dining level and the hearth level...s as t integrate the tw mst active spaces. She nted that the design needs t be a critical integratin f circulatin and the scial arena. Discussin abut the Pub shwn in the Fishbwl: It was nted that students wh are underage shuld be able t participate with thers in the Pub. Accessibility was encuraged t all areas: Glass backed elevatrs give access and allw visual participatin. Everyne shuld have physical invlvement t all f the building s features.
