GINT is a key tl in helping us understand what current residents intend t d during the upcming year. 3 What if I believe there is an errr in my prgram r Graduate Status infrmatin? The yu received regarding the GINT Survey utlined a summary f the degree type, prgram, admit year, guarantee status, and yur length-f-stay expiratin year n file in Student Husing recrds. If yu believe the infrmatin we have n file related t yur prgram data and guarantee status is incrrect, yu need t send an t gradstatus@husing.hsg.uci.edu detailing the infrmatin that yu believe is incrrect by Friday, March 9, Belw is a brief summary f each f these categries. Degree Type: This field will indicate the degree yu will receive upn graduatin. Admit Year: This field will indicate the year yu were admitted t yur prgram. Guarantee Status: This field will indicate whether yu were initially placed in Student Husing with guarantee student status, r if yu were placed as a nn-guaranteed husing placement. Length f Stay Parameters: This field will indicate the length f stay parameters assciated with yur husing guarantee set by yur degree prgram. Fr graduate students, yur length f stay is equal t the nrmative time t degree fr yur prgram. Graduate Guaranteed Husing residents n leases wh mved in : Any student placed thrugh the graduate guaranteed husing prgram will be eligible t remain in residency until he/she has reached the published nrmal time t degree fr Ph.D. and Prime-LC students; three years fr JD students; and tw r three years fr MFA students depending upn their prgram. Graduate Guaranteed Husing residents n leases wh mve in 2018: Any student placed thrugh the graduate guaranteed husing prgram will be eligible t remain in residency until he/she has reached the published nrmal time t degree minus 1 fr Ph.D. and Prime-LC students; three years fr JD students; and tw r three years fr MFA students depending upn their prgram. Nn-Guaranteed residents placed thrugh Waitlist Placement n leases: Husing leases expire n June 30th f each year and are nt guaranteed/assured fr renewal. Husing eligibility limit is the published nrmal time t degree (NTTD -1 fr Fall 2018) fr Ph.D., M.D. and Ed.D students; tw years fr terminal masters; and tw r three years fr MFA students depending upn their prgram. Residents may submit a request fr lease renewal if he/she is within his/her husing eligibility limit. Requests fr renewal are subject t review and apprval and based n space availability. Veteran, Reservist (Includes Natinal Guard) and Active Duty Service Member: Nrmative Time t Degree r 4 Years, whichever is greater. Length f Stay Expiratin: This year indicates the year that eligibility t live in Graduate and Family Husing expires, based n Academic Nrmative Time T Degree r yur placement type, i.e. Veteran.) Due t grwing enrllment, students are nt able t remain past their Length f Stay Expiratin. Length f Stay Expiratin des nt indicate a Guarantee Status r Guarantee Renewals. What if I m undecided right nw? There may be many factrs still up in the air, making it difficult t make this decisin by the due date. Nnetheless, t meet the needs f each Graduate and Family Husing Cmmunity, all residents are asked t declare their residency intent by March 28, 2018, fr the lease term. This is essential because it allws us t have a mre accurate picture f wh is planning t remain and vacate Graduate and Family Husing. If yu fail t submit a GINT survey r request an ptin yu are nt eligible fr, we have n chice but t assume yu plan t vacate n June 30, In this case, we will mve frward with lease expiratin and ffer yur apartment t anther resident starting in early July. What if I m a transfer student living in husing? Transfer students are guaranteed ne (1) year f n-campus husing. As a resident living in graduate and family husing, yu may request a renewal, but are nt given an assured renewal. What if I m traveling, away frm campus, r wrking during the day during my lease signing windw? This shuld nt impact yur ability t cmplete the lease. Leases will be sent ut electrnically. They can be printed, scanned and returned via . The imprtant thing is t check yur UCI during yur lease renewal perid. If yu 2 P age

4 dn t get an frm us at the start f the lease perid, check yur junk mail. If yu dn t see it in either place yur cmmunity husing ffice and we wuld be happy t resend it t yu. Will my husing rental rate change? Rental rates fr will be psted n the Student Husing website when they are apprved by the University. This will ccur prir t any student being asked t return a lease fr the Academic Year. Yu will als receive individual ntificatin f the new rental rates n later than May 15, Am I guaranteed a lease renewal? The answer depends n yur placement status when yu entered Student Husing. Graduate Guaranteed students wh met all deadlines and are within their length f stay (nrmative time t degree) are assured a renewal in the same apartment and with the same dmestic status. Additinally, they are eligible t be placed n a waitlist t transfer apartments r change dmestic status. When Student Husing reaches their psitin n the waitlist they can transfer and keep their husing guarantee. Students wh were Nn-Guaranteed were placed as waitlist placements are nt assured a renewal. Nn-guarantee student renewals will be made starting May , and if yu are apprved t stay yur lease renewal perid will be May 7-10, We appreciate and value all f ur residents and d everything pssible t accmmdate incming students withut denying students a renewal. Nnetheless, until we see hw many incming Graduate Guarantee students applied fr Student Husing we cannt ffer a renewal t students placed frm the waitlist. What happens if I d nt receive a lease renewal? Students wh d nt receive an extensin will be required t vacate their assignment by June 30 th, Students wh d nt receive a renewal will als have the ptin t request a summer extensin. Graduate and Family Husing wants t supprt all students with their husing, whether n r ff-campus. T this effrt, husing wrkshps and a husing resurce fair will be ffered in May. If yu are graduating please cme in t the Husing Office and speak with an assignments staff member wh will be able t prvide yu with instructins t fit yur specific situatin. What d I need t d if I want t renew my lease and stay in the same apartment? Yu need t be a full time student in Fall Quarter 2018 in rder t renew yur lease. Yu are nt eligible fr a lease renewal at this time if yu are graduating in the Spring r Summer Quarters f 2018 and nt starting anther UCI academic prgram that qualifies yu t live in Graduate and Family Husing. On yur survey chse the ptin: t renew yur husing lease fr the lease term f July 1, 2018, t June 30, 2019, and remain in my current apartment. The Week f April 9-13, 2018, yu will receive a ntice t: Renew yur lease, which will be attached t the r Pending enrllment, in May yu may be ffered renewal based n available space. When yu receive yur lease, return yur signed lease by the deadline stated in the . What is the plicy fr transferring apartments? Residents wishing t mve between the Campus Village Grad, Pal Verde and Veran Place cmmunities must submit an applicatin t the GFH waiting list ( In additin t the standard eligibility criteria, resident applicants must have been in their current assignment fr at least 12 mnths and have n utstanding balances n their husing accunt befre they are eligible t relcate. Placements frm the waitlist are made as spaces becme available. The cmmunity in which the student resides will be given at least 45-days ntice f intent t vacate. If the space in the future cmmunity is available in less than 45 days, the lease start date in the new assignment may begin as early as 30 days after the ffer was extended. The resident will be financially respnsible fr bth apartments during any verlap perid. This plicy als applies if yu are requesting t change frm a shared apartment t a family apartment r a family apartment t a shared apartment. Residents are given a maximum f tw husing ffers, if bth ffers are declined, yur applicatin will be deactivated and yu must reapply. What d I need t d if I want t transfer frm a single t a family (full) apartment r vice versa? Yu must renew yur lease fr yur current apartment, while cncurrently requesting t mve t a different apartment r change the designatin f yur apartment in the future. Yu will need t submit a new husing applicatin with yur requested preferences listed ( The applicatin pens March 1, P age

Please include the vacate date yu wuld like t request fr yur extensin. Extensins will nt be apprved beynd August 31, On April 19, 2018, yu will receive an cnfirming yur request and ntifying yu f the final decisin. We take all requests int cnsideratin, then lk at what we are able t accmmdate. The cnfirmatin will include ne f the fllwing decisins: Extensin apprval fr the date requested. Alng with this yu will receive a lease renewal fr the lease term and a Lease Terminatin Clse-Out frm which will be dated with yur apprved extensin. Bth the signed lease and Lease Terminatin Clse-Out frm need t be returned by April 23, 2018, fr yur lease extensin t be finalized. OR The best date we can ffer based n yur request and ur availability. Alng with this yu will receive a lease renewal fr the lease term and a Lease Terminatin Clse-Out frm which will be dated with yur apprved extensin. Bth the signed lease and Lease Terminatin Clse-Out frm need t be returned by April 23, 2018, fr yur lease extensin t be finalized. Once the extensin is apprved, we will nt mdify the extensin date. This is the best date we culd prvide yu. Cmpletin f the Lease Terminatin Clse-Out frm serves as a frmal acknwledgement f yur intent t vacate the apartment n the apprved date and cannt be revised at a later date. What d I need t d if I want t vacate June 30, 2018? On the survey chse the ptin: yu d nt want t renew yur lease and yu plan t vacate by June 30, Yur Cmmunity Husing Office will send yu a letter via cnfirming yur vacate date. Yu will als receive a letter via USPS. Once lease expiratin is sent and paperwrk is cnfirmed, yu cannt mdify yur request. If yur plans change later, yu will need t apply fr husing thrugh the husing waitlist. Yu will receive instructins via fr cleaning, key return, and a request fr yur frwarding address. What if I have been ntified that I am at my Maximum Time t Degree and I plan t appeal t Graduate Divisin fr an increase in my time t degree cmpletin beynd the academic year? If yu plan t appeal, yu shuld fllw the instructins in the letter sent t yu by Graduate Divisin. If yur appeal is granted, Graduate Divisin will cntact Student Husing. We will assess yur ability t renew at that 5 P age

7 time. Until that time, yu shuld assume yu are vacating and identify yur transitin preferences in the survey. If we d nt receive preferences fr yu, we have n chice but t assume yu plan t vacate n June 30, In this case, we will mve frward with lease expiratin and ffer yur apartment t anther resident starting in early July. 6 P age
