4 NEW COMMUNITY IMPACT AGENDA TARGETS MEDINA COUNTY S GREATEST NEEDS, CREATES OPPORTUNITIES Afer more han hree years in he making, (UWMC) inroduced is new Communiy Impac Agenda in early A comprehensive approach o communiy problem solving, he Communiy Impac Agenda relies on objecive daa from he communiy o se sraegic goals, inves in resources, and develop projecs aimed a addressing he mos criical needs of Couny residens. The Communiy Impac Agenda underscores Unied Way s commimen o push for effecive, long-erm soluions for Medina Couny. Unied Way ook he fi rs seps oward implemening he Communiy Impac Agenda in 2012 by helping o iniiae Living Well Medina Couny, a coaliion of nonprofi, public, and privae secor parners ha commissioned a couny-wide needs assessmen. The needs assessmen, which will be repeaed on a regular basis, will become par of an open and accessible daa reposiory on Medina Couny. Unied Way voluneers hen spen he summer and fall of 2013 aligning local daa wih inpu from our sakeholders, nonprofi parners, local school disrics, and couny offi c- es o furher defi ne he greaes challenges for Medina Couny. This voluneer-driven effor defi ned he hree focused impac areas and 11 highly argeed sraegies o suppor hem as shown in he diagram o he righ. One of he mos compelling aspecs of Unied Way s Communiy Impac Agenda is ha i requires he use of high-qualiy daa obained using scienifi cally sound mehods, explains Nancy Wellener, vice presiden of communicaions and markeing, UWMC Board of Trusees. All hree impac areas are abou breaking cycles and puing he Couny in a beer posiion for he fuure, adds Bob Seiler, covice presiden of Communiy Invesmen, UWMC Board of Trusees. 6 E4 YOUTH SUMMIT GIVES MEDINA COUNTY STUDENTS A VOICE E4 Youh Summi n. a way o Educae, Empower, Engage, and Equip he youh of Medina Couny wih a voice and he ools o reach heir full poenial. For wo days in February 2014, more han 200 high school sudens from all seven Medina Couny school disrics and he Medina Couny Career Cener filled Wesfield Insurance s Blair Cener wih a palpable energy and inensiy. These eager sudens paricipaed in an exciing, new Unied Way-led iniiaive known as he E4 Youh Summi, a special opporuniy o make heir voices heard, feel he suppor of he communiy, and learn imporan lessons in civic engagemen and problem-solving. Sudens worked in groups faciliaed by suden leaders from Junior Leadership Medina and more han 40 adul voluneers. They shared sories of overcoming adversiy, idenified areas for posiive change in heir school communiies, and worked on creaing a shared vision for heir fuure. Among he many ideas presened were programs sudens hope o implemen in heir schools ha focus on uniy, muual respec, increasing self-eseem, and peer-o-peer menoring. To be able o inerac wih his group of young aduls, who are so passionae abou rying o improve no only heir lives bu he lives of ohers, was more han I could have imagined, said William E. Benne, presiden of Auomaion Tool & Die Inc., and E4 sponsor and faciliaor. In addiion o heir group work, E4 Youh Summi aendees were inspired by gues speakers Probae and Juvenile Cour Judge Kevin Dunn, and Adam Helbling, a moivaional speaker and former waer ski champion who became a paraplegic following an acciden. will work wih several communiy parners o implemen he programs envisioned by he sudens. In response o his need, Unied Way of Medina Couny led is sixh Suff he Bus school supply drive, he larges back-o-school readiness campaign in Medina Couny. More han 20,000 school supplies were colleced a 45 drop-off locaions around he couny, hanks o he generosiy of Unied Way donors and communiy members. More han 1,000 Medina Couny sudens received he donaed supplies, ensuring each would have a successful sar o he school year.
