2 Welcome This leaflet is designed to give you a general overview of the services and support available at the sheltered housing schemes managed by Mole Valley Housing Association. People who live in sheltered housing lead normal, independent lives. Sheltered housing is ideal for reasonably active people who simply require good quality housing and facilities, amongst others of a similar age group and would appreciate, and need, the reassurance and support provided by the Scheme Manager. 1 1 About sheltered housing Accommodation has an alarm system with pull cords in every room and a two-way intercom to speak to the Scheme Manager, or Telecare Alarm Centre. Assistance in emergencies is always available. Many schemes have thriving social clubs and organise activities such as coffee mornings, craft classes, outings and parties. The main emphasis is on residents to work together to organise the kind of social activities they enjoy. Many residents find a great advantage is gained from living in a community with others of a similar age and from all walks of life, providing companionship and friendship to each other. Most schemes have pleasant garden areas maintained by the Housing Association. All schemes have full laundry facilities, with washing machines, tumble dryers and irons for the use of all the residents at no extra charge. The majority also have a twin bed guest room which can be booked by residents for visitors who wish to stay overnight. There is a small charge for the room towards the cost of linen, cleaning etc. The levels of support Mole Valley Housing Association offers levels of support at the sheltered Housing Schemes; Sheltered Housing with Mobile Support Service Sheltered Housing with a Resident Scheme Manager Special Sheltered Housing. 1 How the Schemes Work Sheltered Housing with a Mobile Support Service Sheltered Housing with a Mobile Support Service does not have a resident Scheme Manager. We have a team of three sheltered housing Support Officers and one of the team visits these schemes everyday Monday to Friday as required. They also support other residents in the community, so are not on site all day. When they are away from the schemes, any calls on the alarm system are answered by the Telecare Alarm Service s experienced Operators who are available 4 hours a day, every day of the year. Sheltered Housing with a Resident Scheme Manager Sheltered Housing with a Resident Scheme Manager has a scheme manager working full time on site everyday Monday to Friday. They will be available most of the time, however they do have to carry out tasks off site during working hours at times. Evenings and weekends they are off duty. However they will attend to emergencies if requested by Telecare, if they are available. When the Scheme Manager is not on duty all calls will be answered by Telecare as before. Special Sheltered accommodation Special Sheltered accommodation is designed to cater for the more physically frail people who feel they may need a greater level of support. The accommodation in special sheltered schemes is essentially the same as other sheltered schemes but the communal facilities are more extensive. All these schemes have a dining room where a two course lunch, prepared and cooked on the premises, is available everyday of the year. Other facilities include a passenger lift and sometimes a hairdressing room and assisted bathroom. In addition to the extended facilities, Special Sheltered Housing also have two Resident Scheme Managers who cover a Rota system so one of them is on site at all times between 8am and 6pm, including weekends Emergencies outside of these hours are answered by Telecare as at our other schemes. 3 1 Sheltered Housing with Mobile Support Service Dyson Court, Rose Hill, Dorking Dyson Court has 9 studio flats, 14 one bedroom flats and one two bedroom flat over floors. It should be noted that Dyson Court is more suited for fitter, independent residents as it is situated on a steep hill, and does not have a lift. The flats are spacious with good storage space, central heating, separate kitchens and bathrooms. There is a large communal lounge and kitchen, a laundry and a guest room. The large attractive garden is lawned and walled, with established trees. Dyson Court is at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac on the side of Rose Hill, with stepped access to South Street s shops and bus routes. Atkinson House, Old Reigate Road, Betchworth Atkinson House has 0 one bedroom flats and seven studio flats, on the ground and first floors. There is a passenger lift in addition to stairs. The one bedroom flats are spacious with separate kitchens and bathrooms. The studio flats are also larger than average with a separate kitchen, toilet and washbasin. The majority also have their own shower facility. The flats are heated by electric night storage heaters and the water by immersion. All windows are double glazed. Facilities include a large communal lounge, kitchen and laundry, and a guest room. Atkinson House enjoys a rural location and is situated next door to the village shop and Post Office. There is a regular bus service to local towns and hospitals. Brookers House, Brookers Close, Ashtead Brookers House has 1 studio flats and 1 one bedroom flat. The flats are on the ground and 1st floors with a staircase and a stair lift. The size and shape of each flat varies but many are extremely spacious with large windows. All flats have central heating, double glazing and separate kitchens and bathrooms. There is a communal lounge with kitchen area. Other facilities include a laundry room with an outside drying area, a guest room and a shower room. It is situated on a quiet road on a large residential estate. There is a local Post Office/General Store with other shops approximately 15 minutes walk and a bus service from the end of the road to local town centres. Fairfield Court, Old London Road, Dorking Clements House, Clements Mead, Leatherhead Clements House has 9 studio flats Clements House also has a Fairfield Court has 16 studio flats and 6 one bedroom flats over floors. There is a central staircase with a stair lift. The studio flats have separate compact kitchens. The flats have either a shower or bathroom and W.C. All flats have central heating. The communal facilities include a comfortable lounge, a laundry and a guest room. The scheme is situated approximately 15 minutes walk from the main shopping centre, buses etc. and 4 one bedroom flats. The flats are on the ground and 1st floors with a staircase but no lift. The building is situated on a small residential estate. There is a range of shops on the main road and buses regularly to the shopping centre and local towns. 4

4 Griffin Court, The Warren, Ashtead Griffin Court has 8 one bedroom flats on the ground and 1st floors with a stair lift in addition to staircases. The flats are centrally heated and spacious with the kitchen off the lounge and a separate bathroom. Griffin Court has an elegant communal lounge and conservatory, opening into the gardens and a cosy sun room with terrace. There is also a laundry, two communal shower rooms, and a guest room with en suite facilities. It is placed off of a cul de sac approximately a quarter of a mile from Ashtead main shopping centre and is convenient for the shops and bus services. Lyons Court, Marlborough Road, Dorking Lyons Court has 0 studio flats and 1 one bedroom flats. They are arranged over three floors and the ground floor of the building is Dorking s Day Centre for the over 60 s. All the flats are centrally heated, and very spacious with separate kitchens and bathrooms. Stairs and a passenger lift service every floor including the ground floor exit and day centre. Other facilities include a communal lounge and kitchen, a laundry and guest room. There are pleasant sitting areas on each floor and a large patio garden area with raised flowerbeds. 5 Special Sheltered Housing Schemes Turner House, Leith Road, Beare Green Turner House has 0 one bedroom flats and eight studio flats. It is situated on a quiet cul de sac within an estate in North Holmwood. The bus service travels into the estate making the village, Dorking and other towns more accessible. Silver Court, Cressel Close, Leatherhead Silver Court has 0 studio flats and one bedroom flats arranged over the ground and 1st floors. There is a passenger lift in addition to stairways. The spacious flats are all centrally heated and have separate kitchens and bathrooms. There is also a communal lounge and dining room, a guest room, laundry and shower room, and assisted bathroom. Silver Court has an interesting architectural style, with open lawn and paved areas to the front and enclosed gardens to the rear. It is situated in a cul de sac on a quiet residential estate approximately 1 mile from Leatherhead town centre. There is a small range of local shops, ten minutes level walking distance away and a regular bus route through the estate to Leatherhead and surrounding towns. Southey Court, Eastwick Park Avenue, Bookham Southey Court has studio flats and 1 one bedroom flat. This accommodation is on the ground and first floors with a passenger lift as well as stairs. In addition, there is also an annex building in the grounds containing 6 one bedroom flats, on ground and first floors, reached by stairs. All the flats, 1 bed and studio, are centrally heated and well designed with separate kitchens and bathrooms. There is a dining room and communal lounge, with french doors which open onto the level gardens and patio area. Other communal facilities a include a laundry, a guestroom with en suite facilities and a hairdressing room. Southey Court is situated a quarter of a mile from the village centre and its shops, and is close to the bus route to Leatherhead and surrounding towns. 9 10

7 Apply How do I apply for sheltered or special sheltered housing? Applications for both sheltered and special sheltered housing will normally only be accepted from single people or couples who are over the age of 55, but adult applicants with a disability can be accepted at any age. Each application must be made to Mole Valley District Council s Housing Needs Department. All applicants are awarded points to prioritise offers of accommodation, according to their policies. There is a Choice Based Lettings procedure.
