Continue for approximately 0.7 miles turning right at the Guard Dogs Patrolling sign and the property will be found a short distance along at the top of the lane. SITUATION Wassell Wood House is situated in a private yet convenient location at the top of a long sweeping tree lined shared driveway in between Bewdley and Kidderminster. The pretty market town of Bewdley is just over 2 miles away and offers highly individual shops, restaurants and public houses, parish church, primary and secondary schooling and town hall, together with the historic Severn Valley Railway. Fine walks along the riverside are available and also in the scenic Wyre Forest, as well as the neighbouring Wassesll Woods. Three miles away is Kidderminster, the largest town in north Worcestershire, famed for its industrial heritage and as the birthplace of the carpet industry. Kidderminster boasts extensive facilities for shopping, leisure and entertainment, as well as boating, walking and cycling opportunities on the river Stour and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. The property is well placed for commuting to Birmingham and London by road and rail. 5 History The House is listed in Brooks and Pevsner in the Buildings of England as being built around 1840 but there is reference to a dwelling much earlier dating back to the 17th century, when the house was part of a much larger estate forming part of the manor of Kidderminster. The property counts among its previous owners the Duke of Northumberland; Thomas Foley, the celebrated iron master; the Earl of Dudley and George Foster, a director of Foster Clark s Custard Company. In 1984 Wassell Wood House featured in the children s film The Box of Delights. Office DESCRIPTION Wassell Wood House is an elegant country house situated in a scenic rural location with wonderful views reaching as far as the Malvern Hills and the Cotswold escarpment, yet within easy reach of the attractive town of Bewdley. The current owners purchased the property in 2000 and have carried out extensive repairs and restoration while retaining many of the original features. Of particular note, the property was re-wired and replumbed, re-plastered and the roof re-leaded. Many windows have been restored to their original sash style windows and the house has been fitted with oil fired central heating and a wood gasification boiler which may be used instead of or in tandem with the oil fired central heating. Wassell Wood House offers impressive light and attractive accommodation with wellproportioned rooms boasting high moulded ceilings, decorative cornicing, original stone fireplaces, decorative wood panelling, bay windows, ceiling roses, polished oak floors and shuttered sash windows.
