3 Welcome to West End West End is a handsome Surrey village in the Civil Parish of Surrey Heath situated just outside the towns of Woking and Camberley, which lie to the east and west. The surrounding area has a long history, first as a medieval royal hunting ground, and, during the eighteenth century, as a notorious spot for highwaymen. Today, the area around West End has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest by English Nature, and is a perfect location for those wanting access to the great outdoors as well as quick connections to central London. For your day-to-day needs, the village has a number of small shops, as well as a doctor s surgery, hairdresser and garage. Most villagers will go to nearby Lightwater for further amenities, and Woking offers a range of high street names as well as Morrison s, Sainsbury s, Waitrose and Asda supermarkets. A number of local schools are rated highly by Ofsted, including two schools in West End Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School ( Good ) and Gordon s School ( Outstanding ). 11 Shared Ownership What is Shared Ownership? Shared Ownership is an excellent way for people to take their first step onto the property ladder. Buyers purchase a share of between 25% and 75% of the property s value, and pay a subsidised rent on the remaining share. Am I eligible? To be eligible for a Shared Ownership home at West End Gateway: You must be at least 18 years old. You must be unable to buy a home suitable for your needs on the open market. You will need sufficient savings for a mortgage deposit and a clean credit history to qualify for a mortgage. You must live or work in the Borough of Surrey Heath and must be approved for the scheme by the Borough. Your annual household income must be less than 80,000. You must be registered with HelptoBuyESE You must be a first-time buyer or existing shared owner. If you already own a home, and need to move but cannot afford to, then please discuss your situation with us. There are some circumstances under which you may be eligible. In line with government priorities, for Shared Ownership homes priority is awarded to serving military personnel and former members of the British Armed Forces honourably discharged in the last two years.
