This kitchen has been featured in Better Homes and Gardens and Homes and Cottages Big Kitchen Issue. Designed by Bart Griffin and executed by Maximilian Huxley, the kitchen, which was once the dominion of servants, is now reborn to be appropriate for today s lifestyle without sacrificing any of the heritage status of the home. To accommodate the expansion, space was cleverly borrowed from the traditional butlers pantry just outside the formal dining room. This allowed for all the conveniences of a modern kitchen while retaining original windows locations and exterior walls. The grand centerpiece of the kitchen is a AGA cooker with its elegantly incorporated hood fan. Cabinetry is hand-painted face-frame wood with vintage features like leaded glass doors on the uppers and farm-house style hardware. The counters are honed black granite, reminiscent of soapstone yet much more durable. The apron-front farmhouse sink sits in front of the bright window overlooking the garden. A two-seat peninsula makes a great spot for a quick snack or for visiting the chef without being a hindrance.
