Your studet may be helped by the office for Off Campus Life (OCL) ad/or the Office of Residece Life (ORL). OCL offers a housig list that is ofte helpful to studets. You have the opportuity to share that kowledge by allowig a JMU studet to shadow you durig sprig break, March 7-11, 2011, through the Career & Academic Plaig Departmet s Extership Program for udeclared studets. I caot thik of aythig I have had a problem with at JMU ad cosiderig I have had someoe there cotiuously sice 2003 I thik that is pretty impressive. Each of my kids has loved every miute of their JMU experiece ad although my daughter has always said she would t atted JMU because all of her brothers wet there, despite beig accepted to some better (accordig to those schools) school, she is amazed to fid herself thikig she will be happiest i Harrisoburg. It is a great educatio for a great price i a beautiful settig. Oe of these chages, overdraft fees, requires you to make a decisio about how you wat your bak to hadle a situatio i which you try to sped more moey tha you have i your accout. Accordig to Bakrate.com: Begiig July 1 for ew accouts ad August 15 for existig accouts, baks will o loger automatically provide ATM ad debit card overdraft protectio. Istead, customers will have to opt i, or sig up specifically sayig that they wat the service. Overdrafts triggered by checks ad ACH trasfers, for istace paymets to bills, will still be automatically covered. What is Judicial Affairs? The Office of Judicial Affairs, a departmet withi the Divisio of Studet Affairs ad Uiversity Plaig, is committed to promotig studet learig ad civic resposibility. Judicial Affairs hadles JMU commuity stadards violatios, which do ot iclude Hoor Code violatios. The JMU Hoor Coucil hears those academic dishoesty cases. Judicial Affairs has developed parterships with the commuity to eable the uiversity to achieve its missio. Its members are ot lawyers or i ay way associated with the crimial legal system. Parets As parters: There are times whe the Office of Judicial Affairs itetioally otifies parets about their studet s judicial violatios. Parets of all studets uder age 21 will be otified about all alcohol or drug related violatios upo arrest or receipt of citatio (if the icidet occurs off campus) or after beig foud resposible through the judicial process. Whether otified by Judicial Affairs or through their studets, parets should discuss ay icidets with their studets. Civic Resposibility: Civic resposibility fits directly with the missio of James Madiso Uiversity to create educated ad elighteed citizes. Judicial Affairs supports the uiversity s missio. I today s global society, civically resposible idividuals who are egaged with their commuities are desperately eeded. All of JMU s educatioal sactios iclude a compoet that examies what it meas to be civically resposible. All the JMU commuity stadards ad judicial processes are i the JMU studet hadbook. Some examples of violatios that could result i suspesio are drug feloies, violece to persos, sexual assault ad cotiued violatios of policies. Every case is heard o a idividual basis ad sactios may vary based o circumstaces ad past judicial history. A Studet Resource: If a studet is victimized, harassed or abused by aother studet, this could be a violatio of uiversity policy. Whe studets are arrested or give a citatio off campus ad foud guilty (icludig deferred dispositio) i court for a alcohol or drug violatio, they first receive sactios from the court system ad the are referred to the Office of Judicial Affairs. The JMU judicial system is a separate process from the crimial system ad could result i educatioal programs ad discipliary probatio at the uiversity. Three Strikes: JMU has a three-strikes sactioig strategy for alcohol ad drug violatios. This meas if studets are foud resposible for three alcohol ad/or drug violatios, they may be suspeded. Be aware that this is a miimum sactioig strategy, meaig suspesio for alcohol ad drugs ca occur after just oe or two violatios.
