Equity i educatio refers to all studets receivig the same caliber of educatio regardless of their race, ethicity, ecoomic status, special educatio status or other factors. Equity Reports give our schools, families ad commuities trasparet ad comparable iformatio related to equity across all DC schools. Equity Reports are available olie so that iformatio is easy to access, uderstad ad use. The Office of the State Superitedet of Educatio (OSSE), DC Public Schools (DCPS), the DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) i cosultatio with charter schools, the Deputy Mayor for Educatio ad NewSchools Veture Fud partered to create these Equity Reports. Equity Reports are a complemet to OSSE s LearDC School Profiles, DCPS School Scorecards ad PCSB s Performace Maagemet Framework. DC average values for these metrics are calculated usig data o all studets i the city erolled i the grade levels served by this school, as determied by the October, erollmet audit. Disciplie Suspesio rates are calculated by dividig the total umber of studets with out-of-school suspesios of or more full days ( or more days i the case of log-term suspesios) i this school by the total umber of studets erolled, as determied by the October, erollmet audit. DCPS schools have the optio of trasferrig a middle or high school studet to a DCPS alterative school for discipliary reasos, ad these trasfers are ot couted as expulsios. Each charter school creates its ow policy for determiig appropriate discipliary actio. The charter sector does ot curretly have oe desigated alterative school to trasfer middle or high school studets for log-term discipliary reasos. Graduatio Rate The graduatio rate shows the percetage of studets who received a high school diploma withi four or five years of eterig ith grade. The fiveyear graduatio rate icludes all studets who started high school i fall of ad graduated by August. The four-year rate icludes all studets who started high school i fall of ad graduated by August. Data are ot show for subgroups with less tha studets. Graduatio rates are calculated by dividig the total umber of graduates by a adjusted ith grade cohort, or the group of studets who etered ith grade four or five years before. Oly studets who graduate with a regular diploma are couted as graduates for the purposes of the graduatio rate. All other outcomes, icludig Geeral Educatioal Developmet (GED) programs ad Certificates of Idividualized Educatio Program (IEP) Completio, do ot cout as graduates. The umber of graduates is determied by graduate files that are certified by DCPS ad PCSB. Studet subgroups are determied by the October, audited erollmet file accordig to the rules outlied uder studet characteristics. The umber of studets i the ith grade cohort is adjusted accordig to uiform rules set by the US Departmet of Educatio. The iitial umber of studets i a cohort is set at the umber of studets i a school who are eterig ith grade for the first time. Studets who trasfer ito the school are added to the cohort, ad studets who trasfer out, move to aother state or coutry, or are deceased are subtracted from the cohort. The cohort year is set as four years followig the year the cohort etered ith grade. The same is true of the five-year graduatio rate, which is why the most recet available cohort year for this measure lags the four-year rate by oe year.

Studet Achievemet The Partership for Assessmet of Readiess for College ad Careers (PARCC), a cosortium of states icludig the District of Columbia, worked together to develop a set of ew assessmets desiged to measure studets mastery of the Commo Core State Stadards i ELA ad mathematics, i grades - ad high school. These ew PARCC assessmets help determie whether studets are o-track for college ad career readiess. The District implemeted the PARCC assessmets for the first time durig the sprig of the - school year, replacig the previous DC CAS state assessmet. Readers are ecouraged to lear more about the PARCC assessmets at Studets with the most sigificat cogitive disabilities took the Natioal Ceter ad State Collaborative (NCSC) alterative assessmet istead of PARCC. NCSC measures studet performace o alterate achievemet stadards aliged to the Commo Core State Stadards. Go to results.osse.dc.gov to view a school s NCSC results. Studet Characteristics Every fall, OSSE couts the umber of studets preset i every public ad public charter school. This erollmet audit provides us with a sapshot of the studet body, icludig the total umber of studets erolled ad their characteristics. The subgroups that are show here were idetified as of particular importace whe cosiderig issues of equity, ad they will appear throughout this report. This school s total erollmet was idetified usig the October, audited erollmet data file. For both DCPS ad public charter schools, erollmet iformatio, icludig race/ethicity, geder, Eglish Laguage Learer (ELL) ad ecoomically disadvataged erollmet is determied usig the audited erollmet file. For Eglish Laguage Learers, oly studets betwee the ages of ad are icluded i these metrics. Schools that have bee certified for the Commuity Eligibility Provisio, which allows all studets at that school to receive luch meals at o charge, are listed as % ecoomically disadvataged. All other schools ecoomically disadvataged rates are calculated usig the audited file. For both DCPS ad public charter schools, Special Educatio erollmet is determied usig the audited erollmet populatio ad a ed-of-year special educatio file. A studet s special educatio level is determied by their highest level of eed idetified durig the school year. The total umber of Special Educatio studets, coutig studets with Idividualized Educatio Programs (IEPs), is divided by the total umber of studets i the ed of year erollmet file. The percetage of studets i each Level of Special Educatio is determied usig the audited ad ed of year file, as well. Oly Special Educatio studets betwee the ages of ad are icluded i this metric. Studet Movemet Studets may eter or withdraw from a school durig the school year. The divergig lies below show the rate at which studets etered or withdrew from the school throughout the school year as a proportio of its erollmet at the start of the year. The et chage i erollmet shows how much this school s erollmet grew or shrak over the course of the school year. The defiitios of etrace ad withdrawal are cosistet across all DC schools. The percetage of studets eterig ito ad withdrawig from this school is determied by dividig the cumulative umber of studets eterig or withdrawig throughout the year by the total umber of studets preset durig the October, erollmet audit. A studet erolled at the time of the audit who withdraws is couted as oe withdrawal. A studet erolled at the time of the audit who withdraws ad the re-erolls at the same school is ot couted as either a mid-year withdrawal or etrace. A studet ot erolled at the time of the audit who the later erolls is couted as oe etrace. A studet ot erolled at the time of the audit who erolls the withdraws is couted as oe etrace ad oe withdrawal. A studet who chages status repeatedly over the course of the school year is couted accordig to that studet s fial status, such that a studet caot be attributed multiple etraces or withdrawals. For example, a studet erolled at the time of the audit who withdraws, re-erolls ad the withdraws is couted as oe withdrawal. Likewise, a studet ot erolled at the time of the audit who erolls, withdraws ad the erolls is couted as oe etrace. DC average values for this metric are calculated usig data o all studets i the city erolled i the grade levels served by this school, as determied by the aual erollmet audit.
