1 Admissio ad Registratio 2 2 Chapter Two ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION Admissio Iformatio Admissio to Ohloe College is ope to ayoe who is a high school graduate, has a high school equivalecy certificate or GED, or is 18 years of age or older. Studets uder 18 years of age qualify for admissio by meetig oe of the followig requiremets: Graduatig from high school. Passig the Califoria High School Proficiecy Examiatio (CHSPE) or Geeral Educatioal Developmet (GED) Examiatio. Meetig the Kidergarte-12th grade admissio requiremets as described o page 17. Ope Erollmet Policy Per of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, The policy of this district is that, uless specifically exempted by statute or regulatio, every course, course sectio, or class, reported for state aid, wherever offered ad maitaied by the district, shall be fully ope to erollmet ad participatio by ay perso who has bee admitted to the college(s) ad who meets such prerequisites as may be established pursuat to Sectio of Divisio 6 of Title 5 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios. Studet Success ad Support Program The itet of the Studet Success ad Support Program is to icrease studet access ad success through the provisio of core support services, icludig orietatio, assessmet ad placemet, couselig, advisig, educatio plaig services, ad follow-up for at-risk studets. The goal is to provide all studets with the support services ecessary to assist them i achievig their educatioal goal ad declared course of study. All ew studets are expected to participate i orietatio ad assessmet uless they: have eared a college degree (associate degree or higher); are erolled i Kidergarte-12th grade while takig Ohloe College courses; are erollig solely to take a course legally madated for employmet or ecessary to meet chaged idustry or licesure stadards; are erollig for a reaso other tha career developmet or advacemet; trasfer; earig a degree or certificate; or completig a Basic Skills or ESL course sequece. are erollig oly i Summer classes. 2 Applyig for Admissio Studets may apply for admissio olie at Applyig olie is the fastest way to apply. Applicatio forms are also available olie via the Ohloe College web page at admissios/docidex, iside each term s class schedule, from the Office of Admissios ad Records o the Fremot campus, ad from the Studet Services Ceter o the Newark campus. To be able to register for classes all ew ad former studets i the followig categories must submit a applicatio for admissio: New studets eterig Ohloe College for the first time; Former studets (studets who did ot atted Ohloe College durig the previous Fall or Sprig Semester); All ew or returig iteratioal studets; Kidergarte-12th grade studets seekig special admissio. Studets who atteded Ohloe College durig the previous Fall or Sprig Semester do ot eed to submit a ew applicatio. Per Ohloe College Admiistrative Procedure 5011, Kidergarte-12th grade studets are required to submit a ew applicatio every term. Trascripts for Admissio The followig studets are expected to submit official trascripts from all previously atteded istitutios: Applicats to the Registered Nursig, Physical Therapist Assistat, or Respiratory Therapy Programs; Veteras; Iteratioal studets; Studets plaig to trasfer to a baccalaureate college or uiversity; Studets participatig i itercollegiate sports. The applicat is resposible for requestig that official trascripts are mailed directly to the Office of Admissios ad Records. Applicats who have bee out of high school for five years or more do ot eed to submit their high school trascripts. Programs Requirig Special Admissio I additio to the basic requiremets for admissio to Ohloe College, there are specific requiremets for admissio to the Registered Nursig, Physical Therapist Assistat, ad Respiratory Therapist programs. Admissio criteria may chage periodically ad placemet is limited by space. Refer to the Health Scieces Divisio web page at for admissio criteria ad program optios. Ohloe College/Diablo Valley College Cooperative Program i Respiratory Therapy The Respiratory Therapist curriculum is offered by Ohloe College i cooperatio with Diablo Valley College. Additioal iformatio regardig this cooperative program may be obtaied by goig to the Health Scieces Divisio web page at or the Couselig Ceter at Diablo Valley College. Residecy Iformatio By state law Ohloe College is required to obtai evidece from studets of physical presece i Califoria ad of their itet to make Califoria their home state for other tha a temporary period. A Califoria residet, for purposes of commuity college admissio, is a perso who has maitaied physical presece i Califoria for at least oe year ad oe day immediately prior to the first day of istructio with the demostrable itet of makig Califoria his or her permaet home. No-residet studets who have atteded three years of high school i Califoria ad graduated from a Califoria high school may be eligible for exemptio from o-residet tuitio per AB 540. Due to the complexity of residecy requiremets, studets are ecouraged to cotact the Office of Admissios ad Records at with specific questios. Residecy regulatios may be foud i sectios of Title 5 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios. Iformatio regardig residecy regulatios ad detailig what documetatio is eeded is available o the Admissios ad Records web page at Iteratioal Studet Admissio Iteratioal studet is defied here as a studet who has or wishes to obtai a F-1 Studet Visa to study i the Uited States. Ohloe College admits ad serves a diverse commuity of iteratioal studets. Ohloe s Iteratioal Programs ad Services Office issues the Immigratio Form I-20 to admitted iteratioal studets. Studets the use the Form I-20 to apply for a F-1 Studet Visa at a Uited States Embassy or Cosulate i their home coutry. Studets curretly studyig o a F-1 Visa at aother school i the Uited States may apply to trasfer to Ohloe College. Iteratioal studet applicatio deadlies are May 31 for the Fall Semester ad November 15 for the Sprig Semester. To be cosidered for admissio, iteratioal studets must submit a completed Iteratioal Studet Applicatio ad other required applicatio documets to the Iteratioal Programs ad Services Office. Eglish Laguage Istitute (ELI) Iteratioal studets who are ot yet proficiet eough i Eglish to gai direct admissio to a Ohloe College degree program may wish to first joi the Ohloe College Eglish Laguage Istitute (ELI). The ELI is a full-time, itesive Eglish laguage program desiged for o-ative speakers of Eglish who have or wish to obtai a F-1 Studet Visa. Studets who apply to the ELI ad who wish to later joi a degree program may be coditioally admitted by Ohloe College. For more iformatio visit ad/or cotact the Ohloe College Iteratioal Programs ad Services Office at Special Studet Admissio Kidergarte-12th Grade Studets The term special admissio applies to studets who are curretly erolled i Kidergarte-12th grade. These studets may eroll i Ohloe College courses that are UC ad/or CSU trasferable o a space available basis. PE ad ATHL courses are ot available for ay Kidergarte-12th grade studet erollmet. Kidergarte-12th grade studets must meet all course prerequisites to be eligible for erollmet; for courses i Eglish ad Math this may require studets take a Ohloe Placemet. Kidergarte-12th grade studets are exempt from payig the Califoria Commuity College Erollmet Fee but are subject to payig the Electroic Access Fee, Health Services Fee, ad the optioal Studet Activities Fee. Studets who are erolled exclusively i classes located at off-campus sites are also exempt from the Electroic Access Fee, Health Services Fee, ad Studet Activities Fee. Studets who are erolled oly i olie classes are subject to the Electroic Access Fee. Kidergarte-9th Grade Studets Kidergarte-9th grade studets may register oly i a limited umber of course offerigs. The list of approved courses is available at ad i the Kidergarte-9th grade applicatio packet. Studets will be required to submit their completed applicatio packet by a deadlie several weeks before the start of the term. No applicatios for Kidergarte-9th grade studets will be accepted after the deadlie posted for each term. The first day that admitted Kidergarte-9th grade studets will be eligible to register for classes with a add authorizatio code is the first day of the term. 10th-12th Grade Studets Studets i 10th-12th grade are oly allowed to register for CSU ad UC trasferable courses. These courses are idetified olie i WebAdvisor ( the prited class schedule, ad this catalog. 10th-12th grade studets will be eligible to register for classes approximately two weeks before the start of the term. Placemet Placemet Ceter Buildig 7, secod floor, Room 7205 Fremot Campus Placemet is the process Ohloe College uses to determie the appropriate Eglish, Math, ad Eglish as Secod Laguage (ESL) level for studets to start i their first college semester. All studets plaig to ear a degree; take Eglish, Math or ESL courses; or waive course prerequisites eed to complete the placemet process. Ohloe College uses the followig approaches to place studets ito Eglish, ESL, ad Math sequeces. For Eglish ad Math, studets will be placed ito the highest possible courses utilizig ay of the followig criteria: completed course work at a regioally accredited college or uiversity; review of high school GPA ad completed coursework for studets who have graduated from high school i the last five years; Early Assessmet Program (EAP)/Smarter Balaced Assessmet Cosortium (SBAC), or a combiatio of EAP/SBAC ad Expository Readig ad Writig Course (ERWC) grades; Advaced Placemet (AP) tests; computerized assessmets i Eglish ad Math (Accuplacer) at Ohloe or from other Califoria Commuity Colleges. 4 Steps for Completig Placemet STEP 1: Submit a applicatio to Ohloe College ad obtai a Ohloe College studet ID umber. Studets must submit a applicatio ad have received a studet ID umber before completig placemet. The applicatio is available olie at STEP2: Determie how to complete placemet. Studets eed to see a drop-i couselor ( couselig/dropi) ad brig a uofficial copy of their trascripts ad/or AP results if they have: completed coursework at aother college; passed Advaced Placemet (AP) exams; graduated from a Uited States high school i the last five years; SBAC scores, CAASPP EAP results, ad ERWC grades; completed the Accuplacer placemet tool i Eglish ad Math. Studets who are iterested i Registered Nursig, Physical Therapist Assistat, ad Respiratory Therapist programs eed to refer to the Health Scieces Divisio web page at for specific admissios iformatio. STEP3: Review importat iformatio. A Ohloe College studet ID umber is required for placemet. Placemets are offered free of charge. A curret, valid photo ID (driver s licese, school ID, or passport) is required for placemet. The Accuplacer placemet process will take approximately two hours to complete both Eglish ad math. Studets completig oly oe placemet (Eglish or math) will fiish earlier. See additioal otes o page 18 regardig the Eglish as a Secod Laguage (ESL) placemet. No word traslators, calculators, dictioaries, or other study aids are allowed durig the placemet. The Placemet Ceter (Fremot campus, Buildig 7, secod floor, Room 7205) ca accommodate 30 studets at oe time. Space is limited; therefore, studets are required to make reservatios by usig the olie reservatio system at Reservatios ca also be chaged ad cacelled olie. Studets must kow their Ohloe College studet ID umber ad will use their Ohloe studet address i order to make a reservatio. STEP4: Determie whe to complete placemet. Studets should pla to complete placemet at the earliest possible date. Placemet sessios closer to the begiig of each term fill up quickly. Please go to the Placemet Ceter web page at for dates. Eglish as a Secod Laguage (ESL) Before completig ay placemets, studets must submit a applicatio to Ohloe College ad obtai a Ohloe College studet ID umber. The applicatio ca be foud olie at admissio.pdf or i the ceter of the class schedule. Studets who have determied that they eed to complete ESL placemet should read ad follow these directios: Studets must have a Ohloe College studet ID umber. Studets must brig a curret, valid photo ID (driver s licese, school ID, or passport). Placemets are offered free of charge. Studets should pla to complete placemet as soo as possible because seatig is limited. No traslators, dictioaries, or other study aids are allowed. Studets should meet outside the specified room at least 15 miutes early. Late studets are ot admitted. Retestig is allowed oce per semester. Math placemet is ot offered durig the ESL placemet. Studets who eed to take a math test should refer to the Placemet web page at Retest Policy Studets must wait a miimum of 21 days after their first placemet i order to retest. After that they will have to wait oe year from the secod date. For example, if a studet completes the Math placemet o May 2 but is ot satisfied with the math results the the studet may complete the Math assessmet a secod time o or after May 23. The studet would the be ieligible to complete the Math placemet agai util May 23 of the followig year. The third retest is the fial time. Studets may complete the Eglish as a Secod Laguage (ESL) placemet oce per Fall or Sprig Semesters. There is o maximum. Studets may take the chemistry test oce for the iteded semester (Summer/Fall Terms April through August; Sprig Semester October through Jauary), but for a maximum of two times while at Ohloe. Orietatio is desiged to familiarize ew studets with the programs, services, ad academic opportuities available to them at Ohloe College. Who Is Required to Complete Orietatio? Registratio Procedures Studets should acquait themselves with Ohloe College registratio policies by studyig the iformatio i this catalog, the class schedule, ad registratio materials supplied by the Office of Admissios ad Records. Registratio dates are published i the academic caledar i the class schedule (olie at ad o the Admissios ad Records web page ( Studets register for classes olie via WebAdvisor ( Registratio by proxy is permissible with writte permissio from the studet. Per of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, erollmet will ot be allowed i a o-repeatable course that was previously completed with a grade of C or better. Erollmets will also ot be allowed i a course that has already bee repeated the maximum times allowed. All repeat policies are eforced through WebAdvisor ad studets will be blocked from registerig for courses whe the maximum umber of erollmets has already bee attaied. A course with a letter grade, icludig a W, couts as a erollmet. Per of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, effective Summer 2012 a course with a letter grade, icludig a W, couts as a erollmet. If a studet receives a substadard grade (D, F, NP) at Ohloe the studet will be allowed to eroll i that same course agai i order to successfully complete the course. A studet will be allowed three attempts, icludig W grades, to complete the course. The third erollmet i the course at Ohloe will become the fial erollmet at Ohloe, regardless of the grade eared by the studet. Oce the course is completed with a satisfactory grade (A, B, C, or P) the course caot be take agai at Ohloe. For example: Durig Fall 2017 a studet received a W i ENGL-101A. Durig Sprig 2018 the same studet received a F i ENGL-101A. The ext time that the studet takes ENGL-101A, regardless of the grade (A, B, C, D, F, P, NP, or W), is the last time ENGL-101A ca be take at Ohloe College. 6 Registerig for Courses with Prerequisites May courses have prerequisites that must be successfully completed prior to erollmet. Studets will ot be able to register for courses for which Ohloe does ot have record that they have successfully completed the course prerequisites. Studets registerig for courses that require prerequisites will be allowed to register for the course durig the term they are erolled i the prerequisite course, eve though fial grades have ot yet bee posted. However, oce fial grades are posted, studets must have completed the prerequisite course with a grade of C or better or they will be dropped from the course. Prerequisites Take at Aother College or Uiversity Studets who have completed a course prerequisite at aother college or uiversity must speak to a couselor (Buildig 7, third floor o the Fremot campus or at the Studet Services Ceter i Room NC1312 o the Newark campus) about gettig the prerequisite waived before beig able to register for the course. The couselor will eed to review the trascript. If the couselor determies that the course prerequisites have bee successfully met the the couselor will approve a waiver ad studets will be able to register olie via WebAdvisor. Additioal iformatio about clearig prerequisites is available olie at Waitlistig Waitlistig is a way to electroically stad i lie for a filled class. Durig the registratio period, studets may place themselves o a waitlist for specific classes that are filled. Durig the registratio period, if a class is full studets will be asked o WebAdvisor if they wat to add to the waitlist. If space becomes available i the class, studets o the waitlist will be added to the class ad otified by . Studets are added to the class from the waitlist i the order they were added to the waitlist. Studets may check their status o the waitlist via their WebAdvisor accout. There is o guaratee that studets o a waitlist will be added ito a class. Studets who have blocks prevetig registratio such as a outstadig balace, umet prerequisites, coflicts with aother class, overloads, or other academic issues will ot be added ito a class from the waitlist eve if space is available. These studets will remai o the waitlist util they have resolved the issue prevetig registratio, or three days from otificatio if o actio is take. Studets are restricted from waitlistig i more tha oe sectio of a class (for example, ENGL-101A-01 ad ENGL-101A-02). WebAdvisor will allow a studet who is already waitlisted i oe sectio of a class to register i aother sectio of the class. However, studets will ot be added ito the waitlisted class while they are still registered i a differet sectio of the same class. Studets must drop the registered class i order to be moved ito the ext available space i the waitlisted class. Studets who decide ot to take a class for which they are waitlisted must remove themselves from the waitlist. Studets are liable for ay fees ad grades received if they eglect to remove themselves for the waitlist, ad are subsequetly registered from the waitlist. Studets must atted the first class sessio of ay class for which they are waitlisted. Those studets who do ot atted the first class sessio will ot be added based upo their waitlist status, eve if space opes up i the class. Studets are added ito classes from the waitlist through the day prior to the first class sessio. After that date, faculty have complete cotrol over which studets are added ito their classes. Addig Classes (Registratio After the Start of Class) Studets may add full-term classes, where space is available, usig WebAdvisor ( through the date posted o the academic caledar o the Admissios ad Records web page ( admissios/academiccaledar). After that date studets may oly add fullterm classes by obtaiig a add authorizatio code from the istructor. Studets are resposible for registerig themselves i classes via WebAdvisor with the add authorizatio code. Studets should refer to the academic caledar i the class schedule ad o the Admissios ad Records web page ( for more iformatio regardig registratio deadlies. Droppig Classes or Withdrawig Per 55024(a)(1) of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, studets ca drop classes through the 75% poit of the class via WebAdvisor ( Istructor permissio is ot required to drop a class. Studets will receive a W grade if they drop a class after the last day to drop without a W. However, W grades are ot cosidered puitive ad studets are ecouraged to drop classes i which they are ot doig well ad are cocered that they may receive a substadard grade. Classes caot be dropped after the deadlie to receive a W; studets who are still erolled after the last day to drop must receive a letter grade (A-F). Studets may be dropped from classes by the istructor if they do ot atted the first or secod class meetig or for excessive abseces. However, studets are ultimately resposible for withdrawig from a class that they o loger pla to atted. Failure to do so ca result i a failig grade beig issued by the istructor ad charges beig issued for the class. WebAdvisor also provides the first opportuity for studets to register ad offers the most curret class iformatio.
