Prpsal in prgress The prject aims t dcument, analyze and present public spaces in Mediterranean cities, bth histric and mdern, which perate as attractrs, as they enable visitrs t meet with the ther. The prpsed research attempts t highlight cultural issues in the area thrugh the study f the cities public space, which has been histrically created. Current: Pilts Prjects fr Beirut city, in cllabratin with the Municipality f Beirut. Prpsal in prgress. Beirut cnsists f multiple autnmus urban structures that reflect the scial and ecnmic diversity and autnmy. Regardless the prjects develped in the last 20 years fr public activities and gvernmental institutins; currently Beirut requires accurate and specific interventins in sme areas t accelerate their scial and ecnmic develpment. The research aims t develp Pilt Prjects in certain critical znes that culd riginate a dynamic transfrmatin at sci-ecnmic and architectural level. 8 Mr. Jasn Steel Research Activities: FIRST: June 8th 2017 FIRST was the inaugural Fashin Design prgram runway shw and exhibitin held in the Abryan Factry, a disused garment factry in Burj Hammud. This launch pint was nt necessarily a fashin shw in the traditinal sense, but a launch pad fr yung designers explring many cmplex themes including sex, sexuality, gender dynamics, wmen as wallpaperas well as menswear, sprtswear and multi prcess textile practice. This event was intended t send shckwaves thrugh an industry dminated by cuture, evening wear and glamur. A saturated market requires change, grwth and renewal t mve frward. A catalgue supprted the shw and static exhibitin and a shwreel is in prgress. The creative directin and visin f what the fashin sectr culd be was verseen in the prgram and shw/exhibitin utput by Steel. Runway shw: 147 lks, 500+ garments, 30 minutes cntinuus shw frm just 16 designers ding up t 10 lks each- the equivalent f Masters utput. Designers made up t 30 pieces within each cllectin with styled pht shts, lk bks and in sme cases vides. There is n histry f any educatinal mdel like this in Lebann r perhaps the regin where academic prcess is a cre tenet within the prgram. Antwerp, Nvember 2016 Since his arrival in Lebann in 2013, Jasn Steel MA (RCA) has wrked with Inaash (Palestinian Embridery) as part f his cmmitment t the cmmunity. The aim is t develp a training prgram, cnvert a building within ne f the camps int a design center and t create prducts fr an internatinal design savvy cnsumer. This wrk is based n internatinal experience wrking with cmmunities facing hardship r discriminatin. This frms the basis f academic research aimed at understanding the regin and hw the newly frmed Fashin Design prgram, in cnjunctin with ELIE SAAB and Lndn Cllege f Fashin, can best serve the cmmunity and develp sustainable appraches t design.
