As feminists in the Angl-American wrld champined their visin f a mre egalitarian scial and plitical structure, they increasingly turned t letter writing t frmulate and refine an activist platfrm. The bk, then, explres hw an influential grup f wmen writers frm Mary Wllstnecraft t Margaret Fuller experimented with the dialgical textual (and physical) prperties f the letter t engender a lively epistlary persna the vice f feminist activism in the liberal traditin available fr bth private and public circulatin. By fcusing attentin n letters and letter-writing, the bk as a whle argues that wmen s crrespndence during the Age f Revlutin and Refrm is a primarily literary-plitical enterprise, intensified and deepened by the generic fluidity f epistlarity, by transatlantic dialgue and debate, and by private accunts f what it meant t be a feminist in this perid.
