4 Situation and History Sussex House Farm nestles in picturesque rolling countryside to the south east of Cowden, a charming and unspoilt village on the edge of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex borders. The House is steeped in history with the original two and a half storey timber framed house dating back to 1580 and forming the core of the current house. More recently, after the Second World War, the house was owned by the actor Sir John Mills, and later by Roger Hargreaves, who wrote some of his Mr Men and Little Miss books there in the 1970s and 1980s. More recently the Grade II*-listed Sussex House Farm has been beautifully renovated by its current owners over the last 15 years. There is a pub and a church dating from 1300 in the village as well as a number of excellent farm shops in the area. A more comprehensive range of shopping and recreational facilities are available in East Grinstead, 7 miles to the west, or Royal Tunbridge Wells, 8 miles to the east. Road and rail communications are excellent; the M25 junction 6 is about 13 miles to the north and central London is only 35 miles away. Cowden station provides regular train services to London Bridge, taking from about 47 minutes. Recreation Sporting and recreational facilities in the area include racing at Lingfield, Plumpton and Fontwell and golf at the Royal Ashdown, Hever and Holtye. The farm adjoins Sweetwoods Park Golf Club, a superb 18 hole golf course. Sailing and watersports are available at the Bough Beech and Wierwood Reservoirs, also at Bewl Water and along the south coast. Schools There are numerous reputable schools in the surrounding area including Worth School, Ardingly College, Ashdown House, Brambletye, Lingfield Notre Dame and Holmewood House prep school. Further afield there is a good selection of schools in and around Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.

9 Sussex House Farm Sussex House Farm is approached over a long tree-lined driveway which leads to a gravelled parking area at the rear of the house with a pretty stone courtyard. A Grade II* listed house dating from the 16th century, Sussex House Farm has been beautifully refurbished and extended by the current owners with great attention to detail and now provides an extremely comfortable family home. The wealth of original architectural features bears witness to its long and interesting history. Leave the M25 at J7 onto the M23 south towards Gatwick. Continue south and exit the M23 at J10 and proceed eastbound towards East Grinstead.
