1 CRYSTAL TERRACES: REVISED DEVELOPMET PERMIT APPLICATIO.FEB.09 Crystal Point Terraces, Qualicum Beach Project The project for Crystal Point Terraces at Qualicum Beach recognizes the exceptional beauty of the site in a dramatic deelopment of resort accommodations. The project is drien by the intention to intensiely deelop a 0 meter long steeply sloped site that faces the bay at Qualicum Beach, near the mid-point of Vancouer Island, British Columbia. The north-facing slope presents an unobstructed panoramic iew of the beach front and the open waters of the Georgia Strait. The geometry and topography of the site are the strongest form generators of the project. The structure steps up the hill while creating platforms that sit at three leels aboe the parking leel. These units on indiidual platforms are connected on one side to the landscape. This means that eery unit, from leel one to leel three, has direct outside access to a system of landscaped terraces and steps. Integrated into the natural slope and landscape, the site stairs climb up the hillside at the ends of each of the fie blocks. This configuration gies each unit at least two open sides and therefore east or west sunlight. The approximate thirty-fie degree slope and matching terracing produces large open terraces that are extensions of the unit liing rooms and bedrooms. The eleator lobbies throughout the project will be exterior spaces which are lushly landscaped and open to the spectacular iews The quality of the lobby spaces and the iews from within the glass fronted eleators will create a continuous experience of the beautiful natural setting, throughout the approach to the hotel-style priate suite entrances. The name Crystal Point alludes to the extensie glazing across the entire front of each unit. Aluminum framed sliding glass doors and panels along with transparent and translucent glass railing will sparkle by day and glow by night. The construction and finish materials at Crystal Point will be mainly tinted concrete, glass, stone and tile and an abundance of green roofs and edge planters. The architectural expression and the interior design will be modern and dignified using natural materials in a gracious but restrained manner. The project will be a setting for elegant luxury in a stunning natural location.
