Buses between Wetherby and Knaresborough stop within a few minutes walk of Privas Court, and other services from the bus station in the town centre operate to Harrogate, Leeds, York and other locations. Arts & entertainment Wetherby has an independent cinema, built in 1915, and there are several traditional pubs, partly as a result of Wetherby s historic importance as a staging post for coaches. Wetherby Racecourse hosts both National Hunt and flat races as well as other events ranging from music festivals to a fortnightly antiques fair. The town also has a wide selection of local clubs and activities, including amateur drama, local radio, photography, dance and various sports. Shopping There is a large Co-op Food store in Ainsty Road, around ten minutes walk from Privas Court, open seven day a week. Wetherby town centre, around fifteen minutes walk away, offers a wide range of mostly independent local traders in a traditional market town environment, while the pedestrianised Horsefair Centre includes a choice of high street names. 20 1 Wetherby Weir 2 Boston Road Roundabout Horse 3 The Shambles 4 Wetherby Leisure Centre Leisure & Recreation Wetherby Leisure Centre, located beside the River Wharfe and the Wetherby Ings sports fields, has a 25m swimming pool, a learners pool and a 40 station gym. The town golf club s beautiful parkland course lies alongside the River Wharfe, and the wider locale has wonderful surroundings to explore on foot or bicycle, including Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Wetherby is also on the route of the White Rose Way, a 104-mile trail from Leeds to Scarborough. Recycling Facilities There are local kerbside green bin collections for clean recyclable materials including plastic, metal cans, card and paper, and the car park adjacent to the Horsefair Centre has receptacles for glass bottles and jars. Education & Health There are four primary schools in Wetherby, Deighton Gates Primary and St Joseph s RC Primary being the closest to Privas Court, and the town s secondary school, Wetherby High, is a specialist technology college. All three are within around ten minutes walk. Wetherby Surgery, a full-time medical practice, is a little over half a mile from the development, and nearby dental surgeries include GlenLea Dental Suite, York Place Dental Practice, and the long-established Hopkinson Dental Practice in Wetherby Market Place Privas Court 4

23 Privas, France A twin in France The name Privas Court celebrates the joining of Wetherby with Privas in France in When searching for a town to twin with, the people of Wetherby wanted a partner of similar size that had a river, a bridge and a market. Privas, in the Ardèche Département, not only fulfilled all of these criteria, it is a beautiful, historic town set in magnificent surroundings that include miles of protected regional park and nature reserve. While the market in Privas is held twice each week, the interest in fine food and drink extends to every day of the year, and in 1994 the town was listed as being of outstanding gourmet interest. After just over a mile, at the roundabout on the outskirts of Wetherby take the third exit to stay on the A168, and carry on through the next roundabout. At the following roundabout, just before an overpass, take the first exit following signs for the town centre and the racecourse. Turn left at the T-junction then take the second right turn into Audby Lane, then the second right into Sandbeck way and the entrance to Privas Court is on the right. From the A1(M) southbound Exit the A1(M) at junction 46 and at the roundabout take the fourth exit to join the B1224 signposted for Wetherby. At the next roundabout take the first exit to join the A186 for Leeds, then at half a mile on at the roundabout take the third exit into Sandbeck Lane, signposted for Wetherby. Take second left into Sandbeck Way. Take the second left turn, and the entrance to Privas Court is on the right.
