Lily reprted n the fllwing Technical Cuncil Items: Building n results f Visin 2010 has resulted in 4 task frces: (1) Webpage Imprvement, (2) Missin Statement, (3) Educatinal Outreach, and (4) Meetings Imprvement. Ideas are welcme n any f these, particularly (4). $5000 has been set aside t help expand the technical hrizns f ASA. Ideas are welcme n tpics r ways t structure/engage/evlve within ASA (e.g. nantechnlgy, neural imaging ). Please see Brandn Tinianv with ptential ideas. An ad-hc cmmittee called the Inter-Sciety Activities Cmmittee is being frmed, under chair Curtney Burrughs. Vlunteers are being sught t attend meetings at ASA cnferences, particularly thse with strng ties t ther scieties (ASHRAE, AES, INCE, NCAC, etc.) New pen access n-line jurnal prpsed t kick ff in January 2008 (submissin t begin in Octber 2007); fur issues per year Cntent: papers presented at ASA-spnsred meetings are eligible fr publicatin in new jurnal Frmat: authrs uplad ne PDF file with all figures embedded, f 12 printed pages r less Review: an assciate editr in a technical area is assigned t each paper, respnsible fr rapid decisin n acceptance r rejectin (based n paper adhering t sme basic requirements). Medals and Awards (Red Wetherill) Katherine Harris is t receive the ASA s Gld Medal, ur highest hnr. Membership (Greg Tcci) Tny Hver spke n Greg s behalf. He cmmented that the Membership cmmittee cntinues t seek nminatin letters fr Fellws. Keep prspective members in mind. Rn Freiheit has agreed t serve the next 3-year term fr TCAA n the ASA Membership cmmittee. Many thanks t Greg fr his multiple terms f service! Standards (Gerge Winzer) Bb Hellweg reprted n tw current issues. Under a new initiative, each member gets 5 free standards per year, beginning in Als, the classrm acustics standard, ANSI S12.60 will be designated ANSI/ASA S12.60 in the future. Thanks fr everyne s wrk n that imprtant standard. Student Cuncil (Michelle Vigeant) Michelle annunced t the membership that there will be a sessin n fellwships and grants at the New Orleans meeting. Als, there is a new student chapter at the University f Hartfrd. A new student cuncil chair will be elected at the New Orleans meeting. JASA/ARLO (Mendel Kleiner and Ning Xiang) Ning gave a PwerPint presentatin detailing the number f papers ver the last 3+ years and their success rates. He has been renewed fr the Jul07 Jun10 term. He ffered his thanks t the Editr in Chief, Alan, and the TCAA. Bks + The prpsed bk prject Anther Tw Decades f Drama still requires an updated cst and sales estimate frm the prject c-chairs within TCAA. A request fr such was made t Rbin G and Greg M during the meeting. A shrter, free pamphlet titled Hw t Sundprf yur Hme has been edited and nw has apprval fr new illustratins. The editr cnsultant will slicit bids and submit them t Bks +. What is the status f the prpsed bk n wrship spaces? The prject chairs were nt present t cmment. Lastly, Bks + is lking fr nn-published reprts r research that wuld 2

3 be particularly interesting t the membership in the frm f archives. It was mentined that Riverbank labs may have sme test data that shuld be catalged and archived fr all. 7. TCAA Subcmmittee Reprts. Newman Student Award Fund (Carl Rsenberg) The subcmmittee has made gd prgress this year. The Newman Fund s 2006 newsletter has been issued and 12 students have been recgnized with medals this year t date. Student Design Cmpetitin (Bb Cffeen) Bb annunced the winners f the day s cmpetitin. They were recgnized with applause. Classrm Acustics (David Lubman, Lu Sutherland) Lu presented a slide n the current issues being dealt with by the subcmmittee. He prpsed tw new bklets: ne n classrm acustics directed at educatrs and ne directed at architects. He is asking ASA fr funding f paid staff t supprt ASA utreach prgrams n the tpic. Currently there is $2000 in initiative mney that has nt been spent. Steve Pettyjhn mentined the website: develped by the state f Califrnia with infrmatin n hw t maximize student perfrmance; Pettyjhn authred the sectin n acustics in schls. Subcmmittee n University/Cnsultant Partnerships fr Research (Paul Calamia) this subcmmittee has been disbanded. Acustics Prduct Safety Wrking Grup (Nancy Timmerman) nthing t reprt. TCAA Student Paper Award (Brandn Tinianv) Results frm the Hnlulu meeting were presented by Brandn. 4 8. New Business. Electin f TCAA Chair ( ): The nminating cmmittee has frwarded tw names Alex Case and Brandn Tinianv. After a vte, Brandn Tinianv was elected the new chair f TCAA, and Alex was requested t be the incming secretary. Bth gentlemen accepted the psitins. 9. Planning f Future Meetings. Special Sessin planning discussin fr future meetings was led by Lily Wang. She reminded the attendees that TCAA shuld aim t have at mst 7 r 8 half-day special sessins in rder t have n verlapping special sessins. A reminder was made t special sessin chairs, that they shuld submit the sessin reprt frms t the ASA ffice after each meeting, making particular nte f authrs wh d nt shw t present their paper. New Orleans, LA (Nvember 27-December 1, 2007) TPOM Representatives: David Wlwrth and Ang Campanella vlunteered. TCAA is hsting a ht tpic presentatin in New Orleans.
