Written by Anna Brandt GRAPHIC DESIGN GRADUATING CLASS The new graphic design graduates for Charleston Southern s design program are full of determination, charisma and creativity. One student, Imani Gray says, while I miss the late nights in the basement with classmates and friends helping each other, giving feedback and sharing each other s struggles, it is exciting to think about the future, the possibilities, and learning more. 2 CURRENT STUDENT SUCCESS ADDY KADERLI BRIANNA TYLER IMANI GRAY Senior Imani Gray is spending her fall semester as the graphic design lab assistant for Ed Speyers and an intern for Jon Merkling. With her major in graphic design and minor in web development, Imani was perfect for the job, and her bosses agreed. She excels at overcoming any obstacles that come her way and delivers quality content on a schedule. As part of her internship, Imani designed this year s homecoming t-shirt! Everything and every day is a lesson, and this student is eager to learn. A junior volleyball player, Addy Kaderli is majoring in graphic design and minoring in marketing. By juggling her volleyball schedule, her academics, and her freelance work, Addy is an expert in time management. Thanks to her advertising skill with social media, Addy performs an assortment of creative jobs ranging from t-shirt design to logo and poster design. Graphic design major Brianna Tyler began her junior year as an intern at Awaken Church. Already a member of the church, Brianna was blessed and bring forth her skills of graphic design and production. Not only does she love working there, she also loves to see the fruit of her hard work as it s utilized for a glory beyond her own. 3 CURRENT STUDENT SUCCESS ELLEN YOUNG As a sophomore at CSU, Ellen Young is a diligent student with a graphic design major and a double minor in web development and marketing. Starting in high school, Ellen began crafting her skills in photography and design, even developing her own websites. Currently, she s enjoying freelance work. Ellen just loves to work on projects or to go out to photoshoots. Check out her work at REGANNE BROWN As a junior, Reganne is majoring in graphic design and minoring in computer science while holding a position as the graphic intern for Ashley Buck at Fortibus Marketing. She creates advertisements and promotions for the hospitals that her company represents as well as the designs for Fortibus. With this internship sharpening her skills in layout, typography, and composition, Reganne holds immense pride over her work. BECCA ROLLINS four years at CSU double majoring in graphic design and Christian studies as well as double minoring in history and in missions and church planting alongside an internship as a design assistant for fotype. Becca absolutely loves her job of establishing a social media presence, especially since the typical client She hopes to continue on a similar path by helping churches grow through design. 4 CURRENT STUDENT SUCCESS BRITTANY BOYD Junior Brittany Boyd studies graphic design with a double minor in web development as well as Christian worldview and apologetics. She spent her summer as a work study for CSU s Graphic Design Department, designing websites with MadeSimply and materials for Northwood Baptist Church. Brittany now works as the graphic design lab manager under Professor Speyers. Her skills in web and print design have ensured excellence at any job she takes on. his graphic design major and his computer science minor. Over the summer, he worked as a photographer at Tumbleston Photography. Working under Cory Brown, Douglas s duties include wedding photography for Tumbleston as well as taking the senior portraits for the high schools in the Charleston Area. He loves interacting with clients, especially the high schoolers, because of how it sharpens his communication skills and helps anticipate his client s needs.. 5 CURRENT STUDENT SUCCESS CHRISTI PORTER Christi Porter is a junior majoring in graphic design, while minoring in marketing. She keeps her life busy by balancing her multiple jobs as the owner of Christiana Productions, as a second shooter for Surrender Films, the multimedia specialist for CSU s Student Government Association, as well as a summer photographer for Tumbleston Photography Studios. Through these wonderful opportunities, Christi has become advertising, making her the ideal candidate for a variety of jobs. With a major in graphic design and double minor in studio art and English, Senior Kylie Klein is well skilled for her marketing internship at Galloway & Company. Working under the Head of Marketing, Kylie updates marketing designs for architecture and engineering companies as well as develops infographics and images for job proposals. Her extensive knowledge worker as she continually exceeds expectations. 6 FIRST ANNUAL EXIT PORTFOLIO SHOW MAHALEY KEEN PRESENTING HER WORK This past spring, Professor Exit Portfolio Show for the graduating graphic design students of Charleston Southern. With the skills Professor Marchione garnered from her seven years of work at the Art Institute and the numerous portfolios she has produced in her year was such a success in creating a platform for students work to be seen. From family and friends of the featured students to individuals from the graphic design industry, relevant, and thought provoking work put out by the small, but remarkable graduating class. Not only did the show connect the students with their community, it also applied a positive pressure on them. The kind of pressure where the outcome acts as the motivation and then leads to an increased pride over one s own work. It proved successful as several of Mahaley Keen was our Outstanding Graphic Design Student in May of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 1 Corinthians 12:5 6 CHARLESTON SOUTHERN DESIGN NEWS SPRING

10 Charleston Southern graduate Emily Lyons-Wood works full-time as a graphic designer in Southeastern Seminary s Marketing and Communication media content, and marketing material for the college has perfected her graphic and layout designs skills. Emily also continues to sharpen her photography talent, particularly in fashion and editorial work, in her partnership with House of Landor, a high-end vintage clothing seller. Her photos have been featured in the Charlotte Magazine and Local Wolves, a magazine focused on the arts. From her endless drive and artistic passion, the future looks bright for this grad! 11 ALEXANDRIA SEARLES DEDICATION OF ALEX S PAINTING TO MAYOR TECKLENBURG IN CITY HALL Studying graphic design and communication, Alexandria Searles has used her many talents and passions to actively improve the world around her. She draws her inspiration from the injustices she witnesses in society concerning gender, race, and class status, primarily with African American women. Through her business, Morówa Mosai, her annual Black History Month events, and her partnership to community development, Alex teaches and creates art that continues to add beauty and hope to the Charleston area daily. 13 DANIELLE ELLIS DANIELLE ELLIS After graduating from CSU, Danielle Ellis moved to Rock Island, IL to become the digital coordinator at WHBF-TV. Her hard work there involves advertising, social media, copywriting, and web design. This combined with her positive attitude earned her the Employee of the Month award only a few months after employment. In addition, Danielle s sharp typography skills have are independently distributed on Creative Market and FontSpace. Outside of work, she volunteers at the local boys and girls club designing marketing material as as a Small Business Marketing Mentor. Danielle s designs are available on Redbubble, ShopVida, and Art of Where.
