The town itself boasts a number of pubs, some dating from the 15th & 18th century, and eateries including Tony s Pie & Mash in Market Square (favoured by David Beckham) as well as an array of independent retail outlets and larger stores including Tesco, Lidl and TK Maxx. There is also a twice weekly market on Tuesday and Saturday where you will find stalls offering fruit and veg, fresh fish, cakes and pastries, clothing, homeware and more. You will also be close to Waltham Cross with further retail outlets including The Pavilions shopping centre and Fishpools quality furniture store in the historic town centre. 4

5 LIVING AT ITS BEST KNIGHTS WOOD Travel The area is well connected by road and rail both for local journeys and for access to major routes and destinations. Liverpool Street Station can be reached in 30 minutes by train from Waltham Cross, and two London Underground stations (Tottenham Hale and Loughton) are a short drive away. Stansted Airport is approximately 50 minutes by train, and only 30 minutes by car. Stratford station is 21 minutes away by direct train, and you re only an hour away from the delights of Cambridge. Junction 26 of the M25 is just two miles away, and the A10 is also easily accessible, giving excellent access to central London to the south, and leafy Hertfordshire to the north. 6 DISCOVER YOUR AREA Steeped in a rich history, Waltham Abbey can trace its roots back over a thousand years. King Harold II rebuilt a 6th century church here in 1060, and he is said to have been buried here after his death at the Battle of Hastings in King Henry II later enlarged the church and it became the largest and richest monastery in Essex. Nestling in the picturesque countryside on the borders of Essex, Hertfordshire and Greater London this historic town has much to offer with excellent leisure and sporting facilities, visitor attractions, retail outlets, schools, restaurants, bars, cafes and tea shops. The nearby Lee Valley Regional Park offers open spaces, cycle paths and the White Water Centre where you can ride the rapids in canoes or rafts, as well as fishing, running or just strolling through the 50 miles Lee Valley Walk. The area also boasts beautiful open countryside and of course Epping Forest lies to the east with its 2,400 hectares of woods, grasslands and lakes. There are also a number of parks in Waltham Abbey including Abbey Gardens and Cornmill Meadows for you to enjoy. EDUCATION The area has a number of well-regarded schools including Waltham Holy Cross Primary School, Hillhouse C of E Primary School and Upshire Primary Foundation School. For older children there is the King Harold Business and Enterprise Academy less than a mile away. Knights Wood itself will be home to a new nursery. SPORTS Waltham Abbey is within easy reach of Lee Valley National Park with its wealth of sporting facilities. There are also three golf courses within a short drive of Knights Wood, the nearest being High Beech Golf Course just 8 mins away. 6

The local restaurants cater for a wide range of tastes, from traditional Pie & Mash to Italian, Indian and Greek cuisine. CULTURE As well as being close to Epping Forest and Lee Valley National Park you will also find some beautiful and tranquil parks closer to home, including Waltham Abbey Park which provides a peaceful place to walk or sit and contemplate and Cornmill Meadows where you will find a mosaic of rivers, pools and ditches where wildlife flourishes. SHOPPING Waltham Abbey offers a range of places of interest, including the Royal Gunpowder Mills, Epping Forest District Museum and Waltham Abbey Church.
