4 Your Dreams and Goals Matter When things don t go as planned in the sale of a home, it can be easy for a seller to give up on the Excitement to move that they once had. You may even be sitting there reading this thinking that it s best to throw the I Have a Buyer for our me towel in and give up on the dream of selling, or to wait for an extended period when the market is better, or to question whether or not to even work with a real estate agent. Like you, the Feil family went through a similar decision process when their house didn t sell. Jim Feil came to us and asked if we could take a look at his home at 5740 Rock Dove Dr., Sarasota, FL Things weren t going exactly as planned. The home had been on the market for almost 6 months with no offers. In fact it was not attracting very much interest at all and had few showings. Jim and his son David needed to sell the home to finance David s recent move to Minnesota for an exciting new job change. After all of these months with lackluster activity, they didn t know what to do. The home was located in a beautiful, quiet gated community close to shopping, within 15 minutes of the beaches and downtown, and with fast access to I-75. Fully 80% of buyers purchased a home they found on the internet or through a Realtor, and then used their Realtor to handle the purchase. Only 1% purchased a home found in print media (newspapers). These statistics are similar across all age groups. Even the most senior home buyers prefer the internet over other media when searching for their next home. Take care of major defects like broken windows or a leaky roof that could discourage buyers. Make small repairs like patching holes, replacing burned-out light bulbs and fixing leaky faucets. Organize closets and drawers. Over-crowded closets give the appearance that your home doesn't have enough storage space. 16
