10 photo: Ariel Ramírez photo: Ariel Ramírez ME Barcelona Hotel Carrer Pere IV Barcelona Initially known as Hotel Habitat Sky, the building was sold in 2008 to Melia Hotels Hence, its name was changed to Hotel ME Barcelona The hotel is thought of as a play of volumes A cubic building acts as a counterpoint behind the tower, which is a rectangular parallelepiped cut lengthwise in two, with one of them half-shifted skywards This rupture of the perfect geometric block creates a movement of form and volume that bestows an urban sense on the insertion of the tower in the horizontal city The shifted half-volume creates the building's reference signs: down, the cantilever at 25 metres height that acts as a gateway; up, the crest in the skyline The hotel's skin is made of micro-perforated aluminium behind a glass curtain wall, which gives the building the image of a bright metal needle Floor area/size m² Main designer, Associate architect Dominique Perrault AIA Salazar Navarro Corada Figueras Arquitectos Habitat Inmobiliaria Jose_Garcia photo: José F García Martín 10
