4 OBJECT The Artists Residence of Malaga is a cultural centre aimed towards contemporary artistic training and the promotion of artistic creation, with especial emphasis on new technical support and innovation. Therein, young artists may learn; may have available resources, high technology and professional tools; may discover the reality of producing artistic projects; may collaborate with artists of international prestige; and, perhaps most importantly, live together in an environment which is stable and fully creative, with other young artists of different cultural origins, and with similar vital needs and creative ambitions. The residence will offer an eminently practical training, with a pronounced dedication towards participation and the creation of real projects, as well as the personal enrichment of the students through daily cohabitation. In the centre, training programmes, activities relating to production and coproduction with other institutions, both public and private, and programmes of exhibition and dissemination i of contemporary works will all be held. The project, therefore, must contain a residential area, a training and p j,,, g production areas, an area for communication, an area to hold administrative and managerial services, and a storage area.

5 LOCATION Project will take place in the plot located in the central zone of the Technology Park of Andalucia, in Malaga. Its form is irregular, and has a surface area of m2. The surface area to be constructed is estimated to be m2. The maximum height of the building permitted is 18 metres.

9 A very general approach to an idea of a residence building is the reflection of Alejandro de la Sota, one of the most important spanish architects of the XXth century. Says De la Sota that: It is said by Saarinen that a man s room may be interpreted as a sphere cut in half by the surface of the earth. The hemisphere above the ground would represent where a man develops his activities, where he develops his thoughts; the hemisphere below the ground would be used in support of this activity, the management of energy an of thinking. The first, transparent, and of glass; the second, of stone and earth. The more the man frees his thoughts, the more the crystalline hemisphere is separated from the earth and, liberated, becomes a new sphere, airborne and unattainable. The greater the need for a technical, energetical support, more deeply becomes the hemisphere buried.

11 PROGRAMME OF USE Area 3. Training and production -Multifunctional Auditorium (100 persons). For training and activities of dissemination. Inside, it will be possible to hold anything from conferences representations or actions with specific technological needs. -Conference room (50 persons). For training and activities of dissemination. A room of mid-range size, equipped like a conventional auditorium. -Media library, Archives. Documentation regarding all projects made in the centre will be conserved. Additionally, a general collection of documents will be created for each subject taught, as well as specific collections created by the students by way of the needs resulting from the creation of their own projects. -Digital Sound Laboratory. Training and project development. -Digital Image Laboratory. Training and project development. -Software Laboratory. Training and project development. In this laboratory the permanent Laboratory of Free software Hill be integrated. -Project Server. Storage of digital projects. From October to June, the space may be used for the development of the students projects. From July to September, it would be used exclusively as a space for the annual exhibition of the projects done. 500 m2 Area 5. The garden is intented also to be as much a work space as an area for relaxation and contemplation of the landscape of Malaga mountains.

16 START: 27 th MARCH 2014 MATERIALS AND REQUIREMENTS. Short work: The student chooses a public residence (of any kind of people: elder people, young people, travellers, etc.) and presents it by Power Point, max. 20 pictures for a 10 minute presentation.

21 MATERIALS AND REQUIREMENTS. Final presentation Graphic documentation A maximun of three panels will be submitted on paper and CD, size DIN A0, with the following (minimum) information: -Plan of general layout, scale 1:500 -Plans, elevations and sections of the complex at a scale of 1/200. With a table of constructed surfaces. -1 Axonometric perspective. -1 Detail of the architectural design. -1 Interior perspective. -1 Exterior perspective. -Brief text: principal ideas of the building ( words). Model A model must be presented which expresses the content of the architectural proposal, both building and garden. Scale: between 1:400 and 1:200.
