2 photo: Nazar Leskiw photo: ING Real Estate Nationale Nederlanden Rašínovo Nábreží Prague The body language of the two towers nicknamed it dancing building and "Fred and Ginger Prominently located along the River Vltava in a historic district, it is one of Pragues most controversial buildings The site was originally occupied by a Neo-renaissance house from the end of the 19th century, destroyed during bombing in 1945, its remains finally removed in 1960 The neighboring house (with a small globe on the roof) was co-owned by Czech ex-president Vaclav Havel, who lived there from his childhood until the mid-1990s He ordered Vlado Milunic to make the first architectural study Afterwards the Dutch bank ING agreed to build a house there, and asked Milunic to invite a world-renowned architect Milunic first asked Jean Nouvel, he rejected the invitation because of the small size of the site (491 square meters); he then asked Frank Gehry, and he accepted the challenge Gehry had an almost unlimited budget, because ING wanted to create an icon in Prague photo: Naomi Schiphorst Project is not public! 5 photo: NÌMEC + Hotel Josef photo: NÌMEC + Hotel Josef Hotel Josef Rybná Prague Located near the old Jewish Quarter - Josefov - the two buildings of Hotel Josef - Pink and Orange Houses - are a relaxing counterpoint to Prague's active, urban lifestyle Hotel Josef is located in Prague s medieval quarter, near Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square Two new buildings, containing eight and six floors of bedrooms, are linked by an open landscaped courtyard and a glazed link that unifies the public areas at ground level Designer Eva Jiricna has managed to create a modern masterpiece that elegantly blends the most modern elements with the rich history of its surroundings Unlike most modern hotels in historic city centers, Hotel Josef has not been shoehorned into an old building It is totally purpose-designed to suit the needs of a modern facility The public areas flow effortlessly around a central courtyard giving visual clarity and orientation Project is public! 6 photo: Ester Havlová photo: Ester Havlová Eucon Building Ulice Chlumova 204/ Prague This mixed-use building in Prague, comprising six residential aboveground storeys, two ground-floor shops, a two-level basement car park and an office block, was built after the demolition of four old housing blocks In architectural heritage areas like Zizkov, new developments are subjected to strict conditions, so the building had to adhere to the neighbouring street and cornice line as well as articulating the front face of the building to reflect its original four-part composition Since no conditions were imposed on the design of the residential courtyard, the architects seized the opportunity to create a richer world here: the different apartment sizes are reflected in the colours of their entrance doors and the owner's maisonette flat is raised on pillars on the roof of the office section The roof lights suggest prefabricated sewerage shafts while the maisonette recalls old Zizkov workshops, showing how well the architects have studied the history of the place Project is not public! 2005 Main designer, Fránek s Klara Caskova Eucon Ltd Aleksandr_Skalicky photo: Ester Havlová Zizkov is a neighbourhood of Prague, also known as Prague 3 Zizkov 6
