People who came down downstream from Vertine, Montegrossi, S.Donato and S.Piero fed long the river Masellone that will be Gaiole, the principal centre of the whole town. Beginning from 1300 Gaiole and its community became part of the Chianti s League together with Radda in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti.
