12 DUNTON BASSETT AND THE SURROUNDING AREA Dunton Bassett is a peaceful village in rural South West Leicestershire. It has a small village shop with a post office, a village hall and a primary school. Secondary schools are in nearby Lutterworth, Broughton Astley, Market Harborough, Leicester and Rugby. There is also a popular village pub, the Dunton Bassett Arms, which has a Chinese restaurant. The village has an active community with regular activities including fetes and open garden days. The village is set in beautiful rolling countryside and there are many country footpaths and bridleways which provide great walks to neighbouring villages. Dunton Bassett has excellent communication links, with easy access to the M1, M6, M69 and A5. Rugby station is only 11 miles away with a fast (50-55 minutes) regular service to London Euston. Additional rail services are also available from Market Harborough and Leicester. It is conveniently located for both East Midlands and Birmingham airports. The nearest supermarkets are in Lutterworth (Waitrose, Co-op and Morrisons), whilst there is a large Sainsbury at Fosse Park (near M1 jct 21) and a Tesco just North of Rugby. Leicester city centre provides excellent shopping facilities including the new Highcross shopping centre which has a John Lewis. There is also an out-of-town shopping centre at Fosse Park which has a large M&S.
