1 City of La Palma General Plan Notes from Community Workshop August 28, 2012 Brookside Apartment property: Consider for Commercial designation Key question: Does La Palma need a medical facility or medical offices? Solve the traffic issues associated with Chevron station. Carefully consider adjacent single family neighborhoods when determining where sand how to establish any Mixed Use designation. If designating sites for multifamily housing development, ensure that the type of housing allowed will attract responsible residents. Provide information about how much money per acre is generated from various land uses. For example, where do dollars come from (sales, property taxes)? Moody/Crescent vacant lot: Redesignate Residential to relate better to the adjacent condominium complex. Page 1 of 4
2 Planning La Palma s Future General Plan Workshop Group Exercise #1 The workshop attendees were divided into three working groups. They were asked to respond to the question: What does a Town Center mean in La Palma? Using a series of icons that illustrated a range of uses, each participant placed icons on the map provided (example attached) to indicate the types of uses he or she believed would be appropriate in a Town Center. One group indicated that the Town Center boundary should be expanded to include Central Park and possibly commercial properties south of La Palma Avenue and west of Walker Street. The table on the following page tallies the responses across the groups. In general, participants favored sit down restaurants and smaller retail establishments. Nightlife uses and entertainment uses were indicated as undesirable. With regard to residential uses, the majority of the respondents did not support apartment and condominiums. However, senior housing appeared acceptable. In addition to placing icons on the map, a few participants recorded the following comments: No hospital in Town Center Area above 91 Freeway seems to be more conducive. I do not want any Town Center. I do not want to make a commercial/residential Town Center in this designated area! Put the hospital at Centerpointe. Page 2 of 4

The second series (B1 through B12)) showed examples of three to five story developments. (Not all workshop attendees participated in this exercise.) A.
