6 photo: Fernando Guerra photo: Nazar Leskiw Lisbon Justice Campus Av Dom João II Lisbon Under the scope of the Judicial System Modernization Program, arises the New Lisbon Justice Campus, in an area called the 'Office Park Expo' This development is an integrated and modern office park, composed by 10 office buildings, surrounded by a large structure of green spaces The North side is composed by 5 buildings and a Tower with 18 floors From the whole office area, this magnificent tower can be seen It has a double glassed skin façade, and together with the VIP Square (a large exterior lobby), this place becomes an institutional meeting point The building's modular design guarantees the poly-valence and flexibility, allowing it to be suitable to the necessities of the 'Lisbon Judicial Services' The buildings were designed by different architecture firms photo: Nazar Leskiw Floor area/size m² Main designer, Associate architect Nuno Leónidas Arquitectos FVarq Saraiva & Associados Norfin Ana_Santos 6

9 photo: Leonardo Finotti photo: Leonardo Finotti Modernization of the Dinis Secondary School Rua Manuel Teixeira Gomes Lisbon The investment in the education sector, in particular the Modernization of Educational Facilities Program for Secondary Learning, has as its objective rehabilitating and modernizing high school buildings, replacing their physical and functional efficiency, in a perspective of creating conditions for the practice of a modern education, adapted to the programmatic contents, the didactics and the new information and communication technologies The intervention of modernization of the D Dinis Secondary School, beyond improving the architectural, constructive and respective infra-structural conditions of the existing buildings, it also aimed the programmatic improvement of the equipment by adding functional spaces in a centralized location in regards to the existing constructions, so that all the educational activity gravitates around it photo: Leonardo Finotti 2008 Bak Gordon arquitectos Parque Escolar uralguides 9

10 photo: invisiblegentleman photo: invisiblegentleman Arroios apartment R Francisco Sanches Lisbon The apartment is part of a typical Lisbon old building It's long proportion produces a set of spaces on which the presence of natural light is the main challenge The apartment is refurbished having the courtyard/garden as a central area that is totally open to the living room and adjacent spaces The courtyard is the main source of natural light for the apartment The continuity and flow between the common spaces of the apartment (living room, dining room and kitchen) is clearly felt by the absence of doors between these spaces Transitions are felt by in-built furniture or by the memory of ancient doors The 3 bedrooms are redesigned and functionally more adequate to modern needs The master bedroom becomes a suite with the private bathroom and the in-built closet Project is not public! 15 photo: invisiblegentleman photo: invisiblegentleman Braamcamp Freire Secondary School Rua De Gama Barros Lisbon photo: invisiblegentleman The intervention at the Braamcamp Freire Secondary School in Pontinha, had the reorganization of the scholar space as premise The project consisted in the reorganization of the existing pavilionaire typology into one single building The permanent and informal studying spaces are being valorized, integrating the concept of "learning street", encouraging the proximity between the students, the various educative programs and the whole scholar community The school organizes itself around a central "learning square", whose relationship with the other recreational spaces allows an adequate integration in the topography of the site as well as in the landscape The building facades materialize themselves in fair faced and prefabricated concrete, thus minimizing the maintenance costs In the interior, adequate resistant materials are used Project is not public! 21 photo: João Copertino photo: João Copertino RATTON The Bakery Largo Duque do Cadaval Lisbon Located in an Lisbon`s historical and emblematic area recently rehabilitated, the new bakery RATTON, is located in Largo Duque do Cadaval, next to Rossio train station As part of the historic Rossio station building, this new bakery wishes to answer the needs of a large amount of housing and services located in this area The name RATTON comes from the owner's family name and his French origin, reflecting in this way the logical connection between the Portuguese and French products produced, and the tradition in the bakery and pastry methods from the two countries This space is developed on the commercial ground floor of Largo Duque do Cadaval, existing associated exterior wooden deck terraces, providing clients the comfort and possibility of enjoying there products in a privileged outdoor location The choice of materials for RATTON *The Bakery*, reflects an informal sense to this bakery but with high quality in all elements and details that constitute it Floor area/size m² S3arquitectos Doca de Santo S3arquitectos photo: João Copertino daily: 8:00-21:

27 photo: Marcelo N photo: Nazar Leskiw Gare do Oriente Station Av D João II 1990 Lisbon As foreseen before the tender, the station created a physical barrier between the city and the river This was a barrier we did not want as we wanted to strengthen this connection and, at the same time, use the present dynamism as a catalyst for the creation of a new and higher quality of life in Lisbon The project is a challenge at various levels - in terms of town planning and architecturally - as it includes two new avenues created in order to connect the station to the city and also, an adjacent square which intends to accentuate and make the most of the longitudinal axis of the building This multi-modal platform centralizes transport structures for the different transport systems which will service the whole intervention zone and much more There are five main nuclei, each corresponding to the various systems, specifically the train station (with it's public areas) the metro station the underground car park and the underground gallery General consultant Santiago Calatrava Tecned Parque Expo JMMM photo: Rodrigo da Cunha Metro - Oriente Bus Train 27

29 photo: João Morgado photo: Ana N Pavilion of Alameda dos Oceanos 1990 Lisbon The architect's masterpiece, both for the tension he manages to create between a necessary, desired and difficult monumentality, and the delicate articulation - with the program and the location - both for daring of the solution and its intensive effect of a representative image symbol The palatial theme, which he used first in the school in Setúbal, is here taken to expressive heights, combining the 'colossal' arcade with it's reflection and sublimation in the waters of the quay The roof of the large ceremonial area is the finishing touch to the effect, which reminds us of Niemeyer and the most innovative of modern architecture and engineering in concrete and steel It is an enormous 'shell', appearing to throw off its supports (only visible as the skeleton, like armour), and the down-facing curvature (an 'anti-dome'), like a reinforced tent, ephemeral and paradoxically vulnerable, with apparent fragility, but an enormous plastic force photo: Andy M Project is not public!
