Being formed in 1907, Imperial was the last county to be established in the State of California. The county has since grown to a population over 200,000 people. Imperial county was broken off of San Diego County and named after the Imperial Land Company, a Subsidiary of the California Land Company. The County is home to the Salton Sea which is the largest body of water in the State of California.
