7 photo: Alberto M Sánchez photo: Alberto M Sánchez Hearst Building Eighth Ave at W57 Street New York New York The Hearst Tower in New York is the world headquarters of the Hearst Corporation The former 6-story headquarters building was commissioned by the founder, William Randolph Hearst and awarded to the architect Joseph Urban The building was completed in 1928 The original cast stone façade has been preserved in the new design as a designated Landmark site Originally built as the base for a proposed skyscraper, the construction of the tower was postponed due to the Great Depression The new tower addition was completed nearly 80 years later The uncommon triangular framing pattern of the tower (also known as a diagrid) required (reportedly) about 20% less than a conventional steel frame Hearst Tower was the first skyscraper to break ground in NYC after September 11, 2001 It's the first green building completed in NYC, with a number of environmental considerations built into the plan The building was designed to use 25% less energy than the minimum requirements for the city of NY Project is not public! 19 IAC Headquarters West 18th Street 555 New York New York IAC/InterActiveCorp Headquarters is a Frank Gehry-designed building located in the Chelsea, Manhattan neighbourhood of New York City Completed in 2007, it houses the offices of IAC corporation Reminiscent of several Gehry designs, it appears at a gross level to consist of two major levels: a large base of twisted tower-sections packed together like the cells of a bee hive, with a second bundle of lesser diameter sitting on top of the first The cell units have the appearance of sails, skinned over the skeleton of the building The overall impression is of two very tall storeys, which belies its actual 10-storey structure Public access unknown! 2007 Gehry Partners IAC pkrajewski_pl 19
